I’ve been skeptical of it before, but we 100% need to pack the court now.

God f**king Damn it. Looks like we’ll be getting a Conservative SC for the next few decades.

That's why people should not say conservatism is "dead"

Ideologies don't die.

Ideology is a belief, it is a philosophy

Yeah, I don't know what all this negativity/pessimism is about. The next time Democrats hit the trifecta — which could very well be 2021 — we pack the Court. It's that simple.

Donald Trump may be able to appoint three SCOTUS justices in a single term.

This, people, this is why you vote blue no matter what.

You thought there was "literally no difference" between the two parties? You thought Hillary was a bloodthirsty warmonger and "at least Trump didn't start any new wars?" You thought "the Democrats need to lose so they'll be forced to move further left?"

There is actually a big f#@%ing difference between the two parties and you've just gotten a very gruesome reminder of what that difference is.

I said in 2016 it was wrong for Republicans not to allow a vote on Obama's appointment.  Being consistent, Trump needs to have a vote on his nominee as well.  We're headed for a banana republic.

The only thing saving us now is Collins fearing losing enough to block a pick or Mitt stepping up

Murskowski has said she's not voting on a new nominee.

Thank God McConnell believes that a death this close to an election, means that the Senate must wait for the winner in the upcoming election to be determined.

If anyone has their hopes up about the moderate Republicans, forget about it.  Even if Collins, Murkowski, and Romney all vote no, that's a 50-50 split and Pence will confirm the nominee.

No.

Obama didn't get a vote on his nominee.

Trump shouldn't get one either. That is the precedent Republicans chose to set.

In b4 Collins votes no knowing it will pass but Maine treats her vote as a golden ticket to reelect her anyway.

Will Trump and his Senate Republican enablers allow us a moment to grieve in peace, or are they going to take this opportunity to rush through a confirmation hearing on their nominee early next week?

Yes, it is a rhetorical question, as I already know the answer...   Tongue

2020.

This will make election-related Supreme Court decisions that much harder, including the possibility of a 4-4 split on something critical and election related. I've no idea what happens then.

If Trump successfully appoints someone and the Democrats get a trifecta, we will be packing the Court. (Would an agreement to not pack the Court be worth avoiding any Trump-appointee-related fight?)

Gay marriage and abortion may very well be illegal in the south in the next five years. And any attempt at installing a public option or reforming tuition will get the axe, as well. And, conservatives have a new turnout impetus for November - Graham and Ernst are safe now, and Maine and Arizona are competitive.

The SC is a broken institution and she should have retired at a reasonable age when she knew Obama could pick her successor. But it's partly our fault for allowing a system like this to continue and to have such enormous control over our lawmaking process.

So sad.

And I'm more outraged it Advanced at the fact that you hypocritical, valueless, double-dealing, power-mad, fighting against the tide of democracy SOB's - - and you know exactly who you are - - Wilkes do everything to steal this seat.

If you don't believe in treating this the same way Scalia was and supported that at the time, you are  moral and value impaired  who realize you cannot win the popular vote so you know you need to entrench powering your dying diminishing demographic and / or generation with Court packing.

RIP. According to NPR, she dictated this statement to her granddaughter during her final days:

Well on the bright side, marriage equality is likely here to stay.

My guess is that this solidifies more reluctant Trump voters.

Yep. If our representative government depended on the life of one elderly person, no matter how wise, we didn't have a properly functioning one if the first place.

So this is how democracy dies: not with a bang, or with a whimper, but to the echo of a church bell. Long live Ruth Bader Ginsburg!
