Anybody have the initial live ratings up yet?

Would be interesting to see total viewership broken down by traditional categories /rating systems...for both the Trump and Biden viewership over fixed intervals over the next week to create a combined Total number...

Still, just like in Presidential Debates, you get sound bites, quotes, and coverage, which help create narratives for those which did not watch....

Obvious question would be who got higher Day1 Total Ratings for a Full and then move it down the line...

Still even not have watched either, it appears that Biden won the "Battle of the Townhalls", when it came to communicating directly with Americans.

Ratings likely won't be out until tomorrow. It's not a total apples to apples comparison since CNN is a cable network and ABC is a broadcast network (ABC has higher viewing %), so we'll see

Yeah, I mean I'm seeing things like this answer could've been better, but I'm not really seeing any takes that he didn't do well. He actually answered all of the questions (even leading ones from Trump supporters), and was kind and courteous to all the questioners. The last answer, while long, was still a great one.

Anecdotally, from what I've seen just scrolling through the media & pundit coverage, plus a mixture of the Twitter hashtag, Biden's performance was received pretty positively.

Lol, even a couple rightwingers were saying he did fine but only because the host was nice to him, and the followed it up with, "But don't worry guys, Biden's not ready to handle Trump!"

The thing is, though, not enough people watched this for it to really sway anyone either way.

The "Ivy League degree" answer was absolutely awesome. We so often forget that less than 30% of the country has a four-year degree or more despite the media image of it being normal to have one, and the elitism that comes from assuming non-college people are somehow stupid or deserve to struggle is pervasive and revolting.

He's absolutely right that your education level does not make you less worthy, and that rich guys like Trump have everything handed to them on a platter and squander it but are insulated from the consequences by their wealth and connections, and further use that wealth and connections to pull the ladder up to keep others down. That's a great message that really connects with the vast majority of the country and I really hope he hammers this message home over the next two months.

The more I see and hear of Biden, the more I like him and the more confident I am in him as a candidate and a potential President.

#POPULIST JOE

Trump playing the elitist angle would turn off a lot of soft support in the more elastic WWC areas that he needs to keep and even improve in.

God DAMN that was good.

Trump should be terrified of the debates.

"Well, yeah, he did great, but he lied his way through it" was also the Obama campaign's talking point 12 hours after his first debate against Romney.  It's a really weak talking point.

Ironically, it may have actually been crucial to the race though because the real turning point for Obama was when Candy Crowley felt compelled to step in and do a live fact-check against Romney in the second debate.  All the ragging on Jim Lehrer for not fact-checking Romney may have worked the refs.
