next lesson in law school : Don't throw bombs at cars Tongue

Overall if they are found guilty I don't think life is good. If it can be shown they knew no one was in the car, a few years should do them good. If it is shown that they didn't care about who was in the car then yeah a decade or two.

Seems like overly excessive punishment.

Obviously they shouldn't go scot free, but this is probably also an textbook example for why the prison population in the U.S. remains so unusually large in the first place.

The mandatory minimum of 45 years charges are obviously absurdly too harsh. They didn't even hurt anyone. It was an already damaged abandoned cop car. If it was a police car with police in it, they could easily be facing murder charges, and I'd feel different about it.

Why don't you find an island on the other side of the planet and just send your prison population there?

I doubt they'll get anything resembling that - most of these maximum sentences are designed to scare the accused into a plea deal - but this is pretty unambiguously terrorism.

Yup. If it was cops who shot up a civilian's car, they'd have a gofundme and be looking at condos in Boca Raton.

They should just pay a fine and do some community service.

MAYBE a commutation IF they actually get hammered with anywhere near the theoretical maximum penalty.
