The most recent Italian artists I’m familiar with are Andrea Bocelli (for his hit Con te Partiro), Pavarotti (Self explanatory) and Alphataurus (70s prog band). I like all of them but if I had to choose Alphataurus would be my favourite.

I didn't think of Bocelli or Pavarotti.

The most recent Italian singer I could think of was Domenico Modugno, and that depends upon your definition of "modern".

Aaargh.

You could have taken Michael Bublé, at least for him I am sure he is also an Italian citizen.

I only know Fedez. Well, obviously I know Andrea Bocelli and think he's magnificent, but I don't think that was what you were going for.

Dunno. Maybe Giuseppe Taddei, just for his Leporello in Giulini's Don Giovanni.

Her birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, I think that's as close to Italian as an American will ever come.

Chiara Galiazzo. Siamo adesso is probably my all-time favorite Italian song. It sounds even better with bass-boosted speakers since those create a "fuller" sound

Being the one who introduced you to De Gregori (and Modena City Ramblers as well, but that was almost contemporaneous), that has to be my pick. Overall I like his melodies and vocals better, and I've grown up with his songs, so he'll always have a special place in my heart. MCR have really kick-ass songs and obviously great politics, though!

Subsonica, Le Vibrazioni, Stokka & Madbuddy, Fabri Fibra. If we're going a bit less modern... Adriano Celentano of course.
