A self-described "transsexual Satanist anarchist" has won the Republican nomination for the sheriff’s job in Cheshire County, N.H. -- a victory she says proves “the system is utterly and hopelessly broken.”

That's my point. If any of the local conservative cops felt any sort of duty to make sure the local GOP (and possibly sheriff's office) wasn't being hijacked, one of them would have stepped up and filed for office. But none did. That's why I'm shaming them.

It takes $10 and could be be sent by mail to Concord. The state runs the primary. You file near the deadline, and no one expects it.

Sheriff is not a big deal. They are process servers, escort prisoners, and guard the courthouse. In some states, sheriffs run the county jail, they don't in New Hampshire. The cities in towns do the actual patrolling.

The current Democratic sheriff had defeated the same Republican opponent 4 straight times. The Republican decides not to run in 2020. Perhaps there is a mention in the newspaper that he isn't running. No big deal. The current sheriff is not crazy.

DeMezzo had run as the Libertarian candidate for sheriff in 2018. He was nominated with 8 write-in votes in the Libertarian primary (the Democrat sheriff and his Republican opponent each received 1 vote). He got about 400 votes in the general election.

The Libertarian Party is no longer ballot qualified in New Hampshire. To run in the Republican primary, you have to be a registered Republican by June 2. Easy enough to go down to the town hall and change your affiliation.
