Still from Alaska

Fellow Parliamentarians, we have an obligation to set the score right by equalizing the playing field. Food Trucks and restaurants. For too long, NIMBYism has made it that a truck has to be far from a resturaunt even if they’re in public property. This is unfair for the food trucks in that it prevents them from having a wide space in an area to operate, directly to the Resturaunt locales benefit. Such restrictions harm food trucks, themselves often owned by immigrants and those with less access to capital, which are already hit hard by the pandemic.

However, I understand that if there’s a line waiting for food blocking the entrance of the Resturaunt, that shouldn’t be allowed, so I’ve factored that in. Also, if there’s an event or if there is construction that would be unwise to conduct commerce and bring about a large group of people, that should also be factored in.

Why shouldn't food trucks pay some taxation towards the upkeep of the public land they are using? And are there any restrictions to avoid fast food multinationals exploiting this as a loophole to get around property tax?

Nowhere in this legislation does it mention taxes. Implicitly, they would pay business taxes as I’m pretty sure they would own the trucks. If not, then they’re contracting them which the owner of those trucks pay taxes.

Not sure if this is still up for debate but this seems like a slam dunk for jobs, the economy, and quality of life. Rolling back these regulations makes a lot of sense, especially in the era of coronavirus.

And as a person who lives by the motto of free trade *claps*, open borders *claps*, and taco trucks on every corner, I feel Soros-bound to offer this my strongest possible endorsement.

(I'd add that the concerns PSOL brought up can be easily resolved by case-by-case local rulemaking and don't necessarily need to be addressed at the regional level.)

Maybe we should specify that food trucks are not exempt from taxation?

I'd be open to that.

I understand the sponsor isn't in parliament anymore, but I have a question I wonder if anyone can answer. I'm having some trouble with "the public grounds aren't used for some other purpose." Does this mean that a courthouse or a park are prohibited because the courthouse functions as a building of law and the park functions as an area of protected land and recreation? Or does it mean some public grounds are okay so long as they aren't currently in use by another party? How do we know when a public ground isn't being used for another purpose?

I disagree with food trucks paying taxes. I'd support a yearly fee.

The amendment is adopted.

Does anyone have anything to add or shall we move for a final vote?
