It's easy and perhaps correct to wave this off as hearsay, anecdotal, unrepresentative of the state of Minnesota and the country as a whole. But honestly, this is evidence of some relevance for the "shy Trump" theory, along with the boat parades and banners that dot many working-class communities.

Another piece of evidence that everyone seems to ignore is the results in Washington's jungle primary, where Democratic candidates on both the statewide and congressional level did terribly, especially in white working-class and/or rural areas that already shifted rightward in 2016.

People publicly and loudly displaying their love for Trump is evidence of the "shy Trump" theory??

Well, Goodhue County (of which Red Wing is the county seat) went to Trump 55-37 in 2016.  So it's not exactly a random population.

'Buying the cookie' could just be something that Trump supporters are encouraging each other to do.

How can you be shy about your support and simultaneously participate in acts of public support?

If you're going to take it as evidence of anything, it would be the enthusiasm of Trump's voters towards him personally.

Yawn. This ””””poll”””” was done in a Trump+18 county that even McCain won.

People do know that this sort of thing does not actually mean anything? If this is what Trump supporters are down to relying on then that goes to show just how little hope there is left for Trump.

Dude, at least read your post before you post it.

People doing loud displays of love for a candidate is not evidence of a shy vote for that candidate, it's evidence that that candidate's supporters are pretty diehard.

If this were 1964 or 1972, you could find TONS of pockets of absolutely fervent Goldwater or McGovern support, especially Goldwater with some pretty extreme hardcore displays of love. Both of them got 38% of the vote. A more enthusiastic vote does not count for more than a less enthusiastic one.

If these sorts of "polls" had any meaning Ron Paul would have been elected president in 2012.

These type of places are frequented by old-timers, in a very Republican, German area.

Not really a surprise.

I love Biden but if you gave me a choice between cookies I would choose the one I like, not the generic sugar cookie that says BIDEN on it.

What am I proving?  I'm just gonna eat it.

Seems like a very Trump supporter thing to do though.  Everything must be TRUMP.  They probably buy them by the dozens to make sure everyone around them knows they support TRUMP right down to the cookie.

Not the first time this bakery got attention

In 2012, they had Romney win by one vote because of a particularly voracious customer. At last count here, Clinton had 441 and Trump had 362.

If those were their numbers in 2016 then I'm almost certain the increase has come from local Trump supporters discovering this and trying to boost his numbers to show just how much they worship the dear leader. Unless the cookie business is just booming during the pandemic.

A cookie poll? Knowing Trump he's going to promise caramel, peanut butter, chocolate chunk, what have you-basically the most extravagant, delicious cookie ever-yet end up giving everyone all stale oatmeal raisin instead...

Red Wing is kind of a nice town. We do an annual Ingress meet up there.

I might swing by and get a Biden cookie.

Buy 3,000 of them and really screw things up for the pro-Trump bakery owners.
