Someone has probably done this before, but what would have happened if 1948 was actually deadlocked?

The whole plan of the dixiecrats was to gain bargaining power with their electors rather than throw it into the house. So that really complicates things.

Campaign trail game mentions that Truman and Dewey can make a deal with the electors ahead of time so it doenst go to the house and you then have the electors vote for Truman for President and Dewey as Vice President

That would certainly have been interesting, but they can’t screw over my boy Alben Barkley like that.

I hate being THAT guy, but the minimum to be expected president at that time was 266 electoral votes.

Governor Strom Thurmond/Governor Fielding Wright: 138
Former Vice President Henry Wallace/Senator Glen Taylor: 82

Thurmond’s economic elitism was anathema to a lot of upcountry Democratic whites, who cared more about the New Deal than segregation, despite supporting the latter. The only states Thurmond ever had a chance of winning were the Deep South ones with very restricted electorates. In fact, Wallace probably had a higher chance of winning some states than Thurmond did of winning the Outer South.

Of the non Thurmond states he might have won in order from likelihood

Georgia and Arkansas - Would genuinely have won if  state conventions went slightly differently, very likely

Florida and Texas - Not very possible, but could happen on a bad night for Truman

Virginia - Only if Byrd really fking hated Truman

Tennesse and North Carolina - lol no

Why does Wallace win states in here?

And out of those states, why stuff like PA and not like Montana and Oregon, where he did relatively well in
