He keeps narrowing his own path. First, he went dark in Michigan then Pennsylvania now Arizona?? He's not giving himself any margin for error

By pulling out of AZ (on top of MI and PA), he's lost the election.
...

Michigan I can understand.
But PA and AZ make absolutely no sense. It's almost like the trump campaign is throwing in the towel.

I'm in the same boat. Idk why he wouldn't be in those states aggressively considering money is not a problem, the campaign he has infinite money

At this point by ceding AZ, MI, and maybe even PA, Trump is basically betting on MN, which isn't exactly a very smart strategy...

So he’s betting on a tie in the EC? That’s a huge risk considering that would require holding NE-02, which Biden has like an 85% chance at winning.

Yeah it is a big risk, but I don't think he'll totally cede PA, he probably sees the writing on the wall in AZ and MI, though.

Do you guys actually read the article? His campaign did not abandon the state.

It says he cancelled ads from 09/08 - 09/14. They did so, likely, because “ early voting doesn’t begin until Oct. 7.” They want to air the ads at a time closer to voting.

Also:

For the week beginning Sept. 15, the Trump campaign has reserved an estimated $580,000 in the Phoenix market. The following week, beginning Sept. 22, nearly $1 million in advertising time has been reserved. There are no apparent reservations for the seven days beginning Sept. 29, but the campaign has about $900,000 reserved beginning Oct. 6.

He also said back in July that after two weeks he'd be back on the air in Michigan. And yet here we are, one and a half month later.

Does his campaign have money issues or something?

I know they were spending quite a lot of money to begin with, and had more or less lost their CoH advantage against Biden. But this weird stream of news about them canceling then maybe reentering but then canceling ad buys again, is, well, weird.

Either there is some master strategy for the final two or three weeks, or this move is incredibly stupid.

However, I'm not sure whether this actually means they have given up on Arizona. Republicans should definitely abandon the senate race there. My take is that the Trump campaign is banking on the debates as turnaround. Probably won't work, though. Trump isn't that good of a debater and Joe Biden is better in one-on-one matches.

Forget Biden/Trump.

The real race in Arizona is Trump/McSally over who can crumble the Arizona GOP's future more.

Arizona is a lost cause at this point.  Dump all funds into MI, WI, PA, MN, FL

I could see a case for Biden voters in these other states being more persuadable than in AZ, but, with the exceptions of FL and (very narrowly) PA, Biden has better topline numbers and margins in all of those states than AZ. In PA, the margin is narrower but Biden is even closer to 50% according to polls.

As it appears I was wrong. the NYT article explains a lot of the questions we have about him going dark everywhere

doesn't it just says he's cancelling for the time being, not pulling out completely?

It seems like his strategy is to try to shore up must win states right now (Georgia, Florida, Ohio) and at least Florida isn't going well.

Guys, he’s obviously going to win CA, NY, and VA, so he doesn’t even need AZ/MI/PA/WI!

I still just can't believe that that'll ultimately be his strategy. Betting on Minnesota is arguably the dumbest strategy imaginable for Trump.

Ohio and Georgia aren't must wins for Trump. If he loses them that means that he lost in a landslide.

Sssh... Trump is banned from entering Oregon on account of inciting Riots % White Natlionalist Violence...

Pls don't share that online... but damn even Oregon Republicans aren't so crazy about the Trumpista Wingnuts that roll around Towns acting like they are representing the position of the Party, while meanwhile to the rest of us they look like bunch of dumb asses at best and para-military at worst,,,

Trump shows up in Oregon will likely get a photo-op with tons of folks who honestly don't want him around...

As some other posters have mentioned, Trump is likely shifting mass $$$ to cover his legal bills for all of the "Swamp Stuff" he's been rolling with for even before he got elected POTUS...

Most Corrupt PRES ever on the $$$ since maybe sometime around the '20s...

With where Trump is in the race (still has a shot, but the window is closing), he needs to be hammering the airwaves.  He doesn't absolutely need AZ and MI, but letting those slip from his grasp make his path to re-election much harder.

Assuming all things otherwise remain the same from 2016 (and ignoring a tie scenario), losing Arizona and Michigan means he must sweep FL, PA, NC, and GA to stay in office (winning these plus losing WI would result in a tie depending on NE-02).
