If both of these hit, I propose we just call the whole thing off and declare you the winner.

Halfway through the first Sunday, nobody has a perfect record in the pick'em -- and this would be true even without the Jags' upset.

Thanks god.

49'ers vs Cardinals live now.

Whilst I like the Cardinals QB, the 49'ers look way too strong on the field in nearly all areas.

Here is a question?

What is "Play Action"?

A play that starts out looking like a run, but the quarterback throws a pass instead.

I think I'm the only one who correct picked the Redskins to win. Smiley

Nope, you were one of three people to do so.

WEEK 1 RESULTS

There was a two-way tie for first at 12-4 between TexasGurl and Grumpy Thug.  The full results:

12 Grumpy Thug, TexasGurl
11 ExtremeRepublican, JGibson, olawakandi, Politics Fan
10 S019, Sev
9 dfw, Donerail, GeorgiaModerate
8 Illiniwek

If you think I made an error in your score, let me know and I'll recheck.

There were several unanimous picks (picked team listed first):

Chiefs-Texans
Bills-Jets
Colts-Jags (wrong)
Ravens-Browns
49ers-Cardinals (wrong)
Steelers-Giants

There was one game with a single dissenter (sort of):  NYE picked a tie in Patriots-Dolphins.

Starting next week I'll also include the year-to-date standings.

Redskins @ Cardinals 4:05 PM EDT FOX (I'm going to drop calling them the Redskins once they pick a real name but "Washington Football Team" just reeks of politically correct not saying the obvious)

Call them the WFT.  Or even the WTF if you prefer. Wink

Do all picks have to be made by Thurs., or can Sunday's games be picked by Sunday?

You can pick any game before its official start time.  Just realized I never posted the rules in this thread (I did in the college football thread), so here they are:

Anytime after dfwlibertylover posts the week’s games, make your picks by replying in this thread one or more times.  Don’t send them by PM to either him or me.  You can either copy the list of games and bold your predicted winners, or just post your list of winners.

If bolding your winners, games with zero or both teams bolded will not be counted.  If listing your winners, slight errors in team names will be counted if the intent is unambiguous.  I (or anyone) may point out such errors so you have a chance to correct them, but this is not guaranteed to happen – ultimately, you’re responsible for getting your picks posted correctly.

Your pick for a game must be posted before the official start time for that game.  This is a hard cutoff.  You can change any of your picks by making a subsequent post, as long as it's before the game start time.  Please don’t edit your original post, as this is easy for me to miss and could also raise timestamp questions.

You don’t have to post your whole list at once.  For example, in a week with Thursday games, you could optionally post only the Thursday game picks by Thursday, and then follow up with the rest of the games by Sunday morning.  Or if you forget and miss the Thursday games, you can still post picks for the rest.

Each correct pick is worth one point.  After all of the week’s games are complete (usually on Tuesday morning) I’ll post the results for that week and the year-to-date standings.

Falcons up 20-0 after one quarter is not something I would have expected.  But I'll take it. Smiley

Of course the Falcons found a way to blow it.  At least the Braves won today.

This has been such a chalky weekend that if the Saints win tonight, two people will go 16-0 and three others 15-1.

Question: Are you allowed to modify your picks after you submit? I think I actually like W.F.T. over the Browns.

Yes, you can change a pick anytime before the official start time of the game.  I'll record Washington as your pick for this one.

You know, I seem to pick tie games every week.

So, it galls me when two games I pick to end in ties don't end that way, and then Eagles/Bengals, in which I picked the Bengals to win does end in a tie.

Is my life as a sports bettor some sort of cosmic plaything or something?

It's cosmic karma for picking ties in the first place, considering there usually aren't more than one or two in an entire season. Wink

The Falcons are once again trying real hard to blow this.

I think the Falcons have just decided to build up 14+ leads each week and then just not try to hold it, this is the second week in a row where they've blown an easy win.

The Falcons's opponents this year should get an asterisk next to their records.

Going into tonight's game, there is a seven-way tie for first place this week.  Six of them picked the Ravens.
