Let's say Rand Paul retires in 2022 and the nominees to replace him are Charles Booker and Matt Bevin.

I think Bevin would win, though the media would treat it like a horse race and there would be money blown here which could be used in other contests. Kind of like TX 2018.

Safe Bevin. Rose Twitter would follow in Resistance Twitter's footsteps except without the cringeworthy references to Moscow Mitch.

Edit: at least it'd probably be a good campaigning experience for the Democrats involved in the doomed bid, as some of them could feel positive about the candidate they were working for.

Lean Bevin (unless it is a Trump midterm, in which case, Tilt Booker).

People forget how unpopular Bevin left office as. That's not going to be forgotten any time soon.

Biden midterm:

Matt Bevin (R) 54%
Charles Booker (D) 45%

Trump Midterm:

Charles Booker (D) 49.9%
Matt Bevin (R) 49.6%

Booker would probably be the most vulnerable Senate Democrat in 2028...
