Well Kennedy voted against both the base closings and fast track trade authority, so if you consider those the conservative positions, he is therefore more conservative than Kennedy that year.

Perhaps you did not understand my posting.

Like many pro-defense conservatives, I think we have gone too far if closing bases which are needed for training.  In my opinion, and that of many members of the ACU, the official position of the ACU of this matter was in error.

I am ambivalent on free trade treaties.  In principle I am for them, but in practice many of the details of the treaties have been very dubious (the devil is in the details).  Example, I believe that Mexican vehicles operating in the US should have to meet American safety standards (which apparently is not necessary under provisions of NAFTA).  As I previously pointed out, many conservaties have problems with these treaties, and it is not a good litmus test of conservatism (or liberalism).

The 108th senate consists of:

83 White men
14 White women
1 Native American man
2 Pacific Islander men
84 White men
14 White Women
2 Asian men would be my count, though
83 White men
14 White women
1 Native man
1 Asian man
1 Pacific Islander man is just as accurate.
(Akaka is part Hawaiian, part Chinese. Inouye is Japanese. Campbell's mother was white, and I think his father was no pureblood either.)
