It was the most people online day in the forum's history, according to more stats. I had my account then, but I have no idea what happened then to make everybody so engaged here. Can anybody enlighten me?

I was told that the spike in activity coincided with Justice Kennedy announcing his retirement, although I still cannot understand why the hell that produced so many more people online that Election Days or the day of Trump's Senate acquittal or other things.

That wasn't big news at the time, was it?

Dave Brat's dumping of Eric Cantor was a far bigger upset, which also got more play at the time.  Crowley was far more anonymous than Cantor..  AOC became a curiosity but wasn't well-known until after she was elected.  No one saw her as the kind of impacting newcomer she's become.
