shouldn't they focused on being better teachers

No, you see, the whole point of a teacher's union is so that they don't have to do that.

I don't defend what the Chicago union has done here, but this is absolutely not what my union does.

the (liberal with socialist elements) Provisional Government of the French Second Republic after they ousted the corrupt and ploutocratic July Monarchy of the Orleanists, explicitly repealed the death penalty to rebuke the fears of Terror; the socialist-anarchist-neo-Jacobin led Paris Commune sybolically burnt the guillotine.

A "fun" fact: political dissidents and deserters were executed using the guillotine in...Nazi Germany. Perhaps a tool used to execute people isn't actually a great political symbol?

There is no comparison between a semi-self-made billionaire who provides a vital service to the American public and a King who lived in a palace while his subjects starved.

If the authoritarian left attempted to make a serious go of killing America's richest people, the vast majority of the working class would rise up to defend them to keep the digital infrastructure that's benefited their lives.

If there ever is such an uprising, it will not be by "the authoritarian left" (whatever that's supposed to mean, if it has any meaning beyond "snarl words"). Such an uprising will be by the poorest third (or more) of society, the people whom "the rich" have ensured have nothing left to lose:

If there is a socialist uprising, it will be because of modern conservatism.

Sorry folks, I’m with the guilltioners on this one

God, Jeff Bezos is such a freaking Chad. Imagine having to live as a socialist in this country these days. To spend so much time every day ruminating on the evils of capitalism, all the while knowing that you're going to have to order from Amazon at some point that week. Who knows what you'll need? Food, pens, clothing, duct tape, textbooks-- it's all there, and for the cheapest shipping prices you can find on the internet. You know that it's ideologically inconsistent. You know you shouldn't do it. But the socialist cannot help it-- he can't afford anything but Amazon, and so he has to send his sad little wages to the man he so vehemently loathes. And Jeff Bezos barely even notices. He built a service used by hundreds of millions of people using nothing but his own brain and his hands, and the angry socialist literally depends on that service to survive-- but Jeff doesn't care. The socialist's monthly earnings are a mere drop in a vast, vast ocean of wealth that Jeff has amassed simply by making life cheaper, easier, and more efficient for untold millions of humans. Gradually the reality of this situation begins to corrode the socialist's soul. He realizes that, like a parasite, he depends on Amazon for his very survival, whereas Jeff couldn't care less whether he lives or dies. He is reduced to utter dependency upon a system and a man that he abhors. It's a cosmic irony, a joke so pure that God himself could have created it.

to be fair, many socialists live with/off mom and dad so many of them use daddy's money to buy from <insert name of fancy store here>.  I suppose a few of them are over paid by a university (that passes those costs on to students, don't worry reader, someday big daddy govt will pay that off too).

Who am I kidding, even those clowns use Amazon.  If you need a thing and need it fast, but are afraid to leave the house, what option do you have?
So many retailers and manufacturers now allow for direct orders. Payment processing is much better than it was ten years ago. The pandemic means that even some of the tiniest local businesses have put up online storefronts. We're also no longer in the days of exorbitant shipping surcharges.
while this is certainly true, if you need a random thing, you can go to the manufacturer's website and maybe you'll be able to order it and maybe it won't be at list price, but it will still take a 4+ days to get to your door.  But random thing will also be at Amazon, 5% cheaper and at your front door tomorrow morning.  The shipping will be free, which is less than cheap.

It's no secret that Amazon's marketplace has ghettoized into a madhouse of counterfeit goods, fake reviews, and auto-generated product listings, but even so it's not really a site for people who "can't afford" anything else - those people do without, use the library, or go to the dollar store.
it can be a pain shopping at Amazon, especially if you're shopping for cheap electronics, car parts or other crap made in China, but if you know what warning signs to look out for it's not that bad.  I understand most people aren't as good as a consumer as they should be, another one of those things that aught to be a class taught at school.

Thanks for calling me a clown.

Anyway I have never used Amazon myself. My mom has bought me some things via Amazon in my life but I think no more than four or five and in any case she knows I hate that.

Probably it would be different if I were American. Who knows?

Yeah sorry guys I'm not a fan of either the death penalty or this new trend of protesting outside of people's homes (even people who probably deserve it) because it's going to come back to us in ways that are far more dangerous and toxic.

I love Amazon, everyone should aspire to be Jeff Bezos. Teachers should be teaching kids that if they work hard they too can become like Bezos, not guillotining him.

Guillotine authoritarians like Putin and the Ayatollah instead.

You're right. Speed is one of Amazon's remaining killer advantages. The last item that I bought off of it was a cell phone case. That's because I had gift card money, couldn't find anything for a Pixel from local retailers, and wanted something to protect my new phone as close to overnight as possible. It's a rarity for it to matter much but no one ever made a fortune by appealing to the virtue of patience.

As for quality control... there was a time when I thought of myself as a savvy online shopper, but Amazon has become a massive PITA. The search function has degraded, it's loaded with junk listings, and the mingling of inventory from multiple sellers (part of what guarantees fast shipping) often makes it difficult to know what you're really getting. Individual reviews are helpful but the aggregate ratings are almost useless. And, at least with books, their packaging is now so bad that the parcels frequently arrive damaged. These problems are bad enough to nullify whatever price advantage the site offers for most items.

The category that I've a hard time filling in elsewhere is computer parts. I decided not to build my most recent PC for lack of options - everything that I found online was pricey, and there isn't a good local retailer. But it seems like this is becoming more difficult for novices like me anyway. Much as with new vehicles the assumption is that the user is a consumer and know-how is only for qualified technicians.
sometimes it helps to know exactly what I want before I go to Amazon, but often times that's not any easier sifting through the bull sh**t.  We (I've made a family of PC builders) always check newegg.com along with Amazon, they aren't as fast, but sometimes they're cheaper.

While I cannot speak for the demonstrators, I think it can be seen as a rather pointed attempt at education, rather than as a threat.

How much would it cost to end hunger in the US?
Quote
Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, has calculated the cost of ending hunger in the US at $25 billion. Hunger in the United States isn’t a direct result of war, or crop failures, or massive inflation. Americans who are hungry simply don’t have enough money to buy food. Berg says “a combination of increased wages and improved safety net programs” would be needed.

You really are sick to believe this.

You really are sick to believe that a lecherous piece of trash like Bezos' feelings are more important than the basic necessities many Americans are denied.

Thanks for commenting, I needed the reminder to finally put you and your hackery on ignore.

Who would win: a modern baron who lucked out with a loan from mommy and daddy to buy into the supply chain at an early date, while committing egregious labor violations and destroying many American businesses, or...

One shiny boi?

The Libertarians clutching their pearls in this thread is hilarious, by the way. We hate the government, we just want to be free to lick the boot that stomps on poor people like they deserve. Notice me Jeffy-san uwu
