What if presidents and vice presidents run on separate tickets?

Voters would have to choose who to elect for president and for vice president.

Not a good idea, Vice Presidents should be incentivised for their President to succeed politically. It is easy to imagine Vice Presidents being unwilling to work with the President on many issues if they are of different parties, and this is particularly bad for the role of Vice President since it tends to have a relatively vague job description (as opposed to more specific roles such as Attorney General.)

We'd be celebrating Tim Kaine's inauguration as President, after he defeated Mike Pence in 2016.

Kaine then ran against and defeated Trump in 2020, with Josh Hawley being elected Vice President after he narrowly defeated Kamala Harris.
