Let's say Trump escalates his involvement in the 2022 midterms, he announces his candidacy for the speakership, in an effort to make sure the MAGA movement (the new corebase of the GOP) turnout in full force like they did in 2020, now that Trump is pretty much defacto in the ballots.

The House GOP members would most likely fall behind like him, just like they're doing right now. Would Trump be beside Harris/behind Biden when he addresses his 2023 State of The Union speech, or would he boycott it? How would he legislate & organize the caucus? Would his candidacy even affect turnout much in 22', if so, would it drive out dem turnout too since they hate him so much, or would they not bother since he's not currently the president?

I suggested that January. He would be be elected unless the GOP majority is a margin of les than 5-6 seats.

Now that Mr. Trump made it clear he wants to play a role in 2022 midterms, Kevin McCarthy is perfectly willing to get in line behind the cult leader 3 weeks after he sort of condemned Trump's role in insurrection and impeachers like Cheney under fire for once doing the right thing, why wouldn't the GOP install their dear Fuhrer as Speaker of the House if they take control of the House? The speaker doesn't have to be a congressman himself and thw House is more likely to flip than not. Trump definitely would have the votes on the floor then. Even if the majority is relatively close after all Trump critics will have retired or lost their primary.

Becoming speaker would once again give Trump a public platform and status as de facto opposition leader to the Biden Admin. It would also give him more attention for another WH bid. And we all know how much Mr. Trump is addicted to attention. His greatest fear is irrelevance.

I know that sounds crazy, but considering it took the GOP just 3 weeks to fully turn back to a man who is guilty of insurrection, I would no longer rule it out entirely.

It would be funny to see Trump sitting behind Biden during the State of the Union

Republicans would lose the House. My guestimate is that Republicans can carve out 12 seats in redistricting and that reduces to about four when you account for states they either aren't in control of or where they have no choice but to eliminate one of their own seats. Trump would automatically wipe out the gains Republicans made in California in 2020 because he is just too toxic. Roll all that up and you get a 220-215 Democratic majority.

It would be a huge disaster and ruin the GOP's credibility in the congressional term leading up to 2024 whether he actually gets elected or not.

Dems have a higher chance of winning.
