Quote
Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, who had tested positive for COVID-19 this month, died on Monday after weeks in hospital. He was 84.

New Delhi’s Army Hospital (Research And Referral) said earlier in the day that Mukherjee had gone into a septic shock after coming down with a lung infection. His medical condition had declined since Sunday, it added.

A veteran politician who served as foreign and finance minister in previous administrations led by the now-opposition Congress party, Mukherjee had friends on both sides of the political divide.

In addition to serving as President of India, Mukherjee twice served as Finance Minister, as well as Minister of External Affairs, Minister of Defense and served as Minister of Commerce and Industry three times.

Damn, this must be the biggest loss in India due to COVID-19 (if not one of the most high-profile casualties in the world)? RIP.

yeah, as far as I know there have been two other deaths of world leaders from COVID: Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi (at least, it's widely expected he died of it) and Mahmoud Jibril the iPrime Minister of the Libyan rebel government during the first stage of the Civil War.

Still officially a "heart attack", though.
