Is the next mayor actually going to be worse than DeBlasio? Lmao, NYC, get your sh**t together. You guys have ten candidates running and they're all worse than a limp Eric Garcetti.

It's Groundhog Day. 2021 and politicians still doing cringey photo ops. And they wonder why people are sceptical about politics.

And this is precisely why Trump and his allies are able to spread lies about elections. Incompetence and taking forever to get results makes people think that something is wrong with the process.

F**k it. Biden should declare martial law against the state of New York. I'm serious. If they don't get their s**t together? That's how the Capitol gets stormed again.

There are two big sources of delays here: 1) you get 7 days after the election for your absentee ballot to arrive, and 2) you get 10 days to cure your ballot. Which are you suggesting they get rid of?

Now if they were to spend forever getting the RCV results out after the above delays, thats a completely different story.

The first, no question. Require ballots to be received by poll closing. Woke liberals will say this is vOter suPrESsion. But Oregon, which is not exactly a red state, does all-mail elections and requires exactly that.

Not trying to defend NY's incompetence, but OR has less than half the popuation of NYC alone.

Nice NYT map of individual donations to candidates. Yang and Morales lead, and they lead in the areas one would expect them to lead in. Interestingly, Garcia's best area by percentage of total donations is Staten Island.

https://www.cityandstateny.com/articles/opinion/commentary/eric-adams-has-no-principles.html

Quote

When a political ally years earlier faced a far more credible allegation of assault, though, Adams took a very different approach. As a state senator, he vigorously defended his colleague, Hiram Monserrate, after he was arrested for slashing his girlfriend in the forehead with a drinking glass.

“As a former NYPD Captain, I have some serious concerns regarding the unusual handling of the case against Councilman Monserrate… It is well known that Councilman Monserrate has been an outspoken advocate for police reform,” Adams said in a statement at the time. “I believe his role as an agent for change caused him to be denied his rights and a thorough investigation,” he added.

When the Senate in 2010 voted to successfully expel Monserrate from the body, Adams was one of just eight to vote against the expulsion. In 2018, Adams attended a birthday party for the disgraced pol.

The Badillo comment is so bizarre.

The more I look into Adams, the more he comes off as erratic and strange. It really makes you wonder how he got as far in politics as he has, especially since the traditional Brooklyn Democratic establishments don't like him.

Adams is erratic, he’s an anti-semite and a misogynist who views the world in a very specific way.

I'm all for this. She's not Yang and she's not Adams. Seems to have a good head on her shoulders as well. If she can pull it off, that would be amazing.

Agreed, she's definitely the best candidate for now.

Also Stringer *still* getting 10% in spite of Garcia and Adams surging adds more credence to my belief that he would have won had the sexual harassment allegations had not existed (assuming these polls are accurate, of course)

She went from 8% in the last Memerson to 21% two weeks later. Puts her on pace to take 47% of the vote four weeks from now. Great honer

I don't think he's surging; he's been pretty stable throughout. Yang has been losing ground as people get familiar with other candidates, though, which isn't a huge surprise for the candidate who came in with the highest name recognition.

Garcia would be great. Fingers crossed. People saying shades of Lori Lightfoot are forgetting that the exact same thing happened in 2013 with de Blasio, after the primary throughout most of the season was Quinn vs. Thompson.

Don't think much of Garcia, but she's better than Adams for sure and probably better than Yang.

I guess this is my current 5 atm (still struggling with whether to include Stringer at all but probably will for pragmatic purposes):

1. Morales
2. Wiley
3. Stringer
4. Garcia (just to block Adams and Yang)
5. Yang (just to prevent a Mayor Adams if they come down to the final two)

Emerson's RCV tabulation. Garcia defeats Adams 55-45 on the final ballot.
