It's nice to see that people are finally coming to the realization that Andrew Yang is a terrible politician and not the next Obama, like some have heralded him to be. He's still better than Adams, of course.

Go Wiley, or Garcia, or anyone who isn't Adams!

So... are these good numbers for Garcia so far?

My hot take is that Yang will be everybody's second choice because the Adams/Garcia/Wiley camps hate him less than they hate each other.

Mayor Yang is not happening.

Yang objectively has the highest unfavorables in the race.
Surely that's a function of a higher name rec?

Real yikes moment for the Garcia team as Wiley starts to catch up for second place

https://web.enrboenyc.us/CD24306ADI0.html

10:10 P.M. Eastern

388,788 votes counted total

Adams: 116,522 - 29.97%
Garcia: 82989 - 21.35%
Wiley: 81196 - 20.88%
Yang: 46521 - 11.97%

Many of the recent polls did show Wiley leading Garcia in the first couple of rounds until, like, round six when Yang's voters pushed the latter ahead into the final. So, if the surveys are accurate, a third place finish in round one would not necessarily spell doom for the Garcia team.

Turnout was relatively pretty high. About 100K more people voted in the Democratic primary, as compared to 2013 (The last time there was a competitive D primary for mayor). About 10K less people voted in the GOP primary, as also compared to 2013 (Malliotakis was unopposed for the nomination in 2017).

I'm not his biggest fan, but I do think that there are some things that the Democrats can learn from him.

i dont think he is wrong on this

come 2022 we are definitely going to see more dems sound more like him and less like the people who are on twitter tweeting nonsense like defunding the police....
Not a lot of dems sound like twitter anyway because they know that whatever some rando on twitter with a rose next to their name says is not really a big deal

Yep. A major reason for why Biden was able to win the 2020 primary was because he understood this, and so did Adams.

Garcia overtook Adams in the PredictIt market.

Wow....why did so many commentators and orgs act like adams had it won?

People like Wasserman just assumed he had it in the bag solely because he held a double digit lead over Garcia in the first round. That's pretty much it.

Soooo....the person who finished f'n third in the election may end up winning?

That isn't democracy.

Er, if Garcia does end up winning, then that means more people preferred her to be mayor over Adams. That's how RCV works. This is democracy.

I know we're all boiling Wasserman right now, but for what it's worth, he now thinks Garcia is favored.

How is one state, and one city in particular, so routinely incapable of running elections

It's almost impressive.

A lot of the data crunchers on Twitter seem to think that the discrepancy won't impact the final numbers much, but I guess we will see. Regardless, a few people will probably be losing their jobs tonight.

The problem has been identified! Turns out the BOE entered in about 135K "dummy votes" to test out their computers and forgot to delete them.

Were the dummy votes all exhausted, or

Most were exhausted by round 7, from what I have read.

Dave is trying really hard to compensate for the fact that he thought Adams was going to win.

Seems to me that Dave is analyzing the data he has in front of him as well as ever. Not his fault the NYC BOE is such a clusterf—k. And Adams very well still could win. Anyone who says otherwise based on some extremely faulty and erroneously released data is kidding themselves.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, but wasn't the missing Bronx data included in yesterday's erroneous dump?

There was 142k ballots added. 135k were the dummy test ones, and 7K were reportedly those missing Bronx votes. So technically weren't they already added yesterday?

I’m assuming that this is the case, and people have been pointing this out to Dave but he hasn’t addressed it yet lol.

Are we still getting the fixed tabulations today?

As brucejoel has already announced, the BOE just released the corrected tabulations.

Adams leads 51.1% to 48.9%. So the blunder didn't change the final results.

Does anyone have the final round numbers by borough? I'd imagine Garcia won Manhattan and maybe even Staten?
