The amendment is adopted.

I have not received a response to my PM to the President and no subsequent post from him has been forthcoming.

It would really help to have the members express their views at this current stage and it would help even more if they could do so in terms of refining the text.

Absent that in the very near future, I am inclined to pursue a vote.

Ok I've discussed this with the Attorney General and I think the bill as it stands is the best approach to take.

I think the car portion should be struck. I've driven with people not in my same household many times. And especially for a long trip it would get pretty annoying. Just make it for Uber or taxi drivers.

Are there any specific health recommendations irl on masks in cars, either from the US or other countries? It does seem sensible to me, as it's the same logic as public transport and we want to prevent spread between households.

Seeing no objection and no amendments about the car issue, I am opening a final vote. Senators please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain.

Aye

Re: Cars it also makes sense to me. The aim is to limit transmission between people and masks in cars are a good way.

In theory masks even at home would be even more effective but that is impossible to control or enforce obviously

It's probably unrealistic to try and prevent spread within a household. If it gets really bad maybe we could have some non-binding recommendations in that area, I think Deborah Birx said something about that. However what we should focus on now that cases and deaths are low is limiting spread between households, so our suppression strategy can succeed.
