https://www.kuow.org/stories/man-who-launched-recall-sawant-effort-loses-job-for-it

Quote
Earlier this week Ernie Lou and a group of other Capitol Hill residents filed a formal petition with King County to recall Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant.

By the end of the week Lou lost a job because of it.

Lou was an independent contractor with Three Dollar Bill Cinema, a nonprofit that produces the annual Seattle Queer Film Festival and the Translations Film Festival. Interim Executive Director Kathleen Mullen confirmed that Lou lost the job due to his efforts with the recall Sawant campaign.

His job is moderately political in nature but not explicitly.

The Sawant people are vicious, man.  They make everything personal.

They've targeted the owners of Uncle Ike's (Ian Eisenberg) and Dick's (Saul Spady) for years because they have the balls to openly oppose Sawant.  There have been multiple arson attempts at Uncle Ike's locations during these peaceful protests.

I donated a lot of money to his effort and he's sending me a yard sign, but no way in hell am I actually gonna put that yard sign up.  Especially with the current city environment where they are committing property crime and vandalism against political opponents with absolutely zero repercussions.

That’s what you have to do to stay alive and viable. SAlt isn’t letting go of the gains that they’ve made in the PNW.

Not only should nobody be fired for their political beliefs, but it's literally illegal to fire somebody (including contractors) for political activities in Seattle, so it's stunning that the employer just confirmed so nonchalantly that it was indeed a politically-motivated firing.

However, this article is also pretty slim on details. Was he fired simply for supporting the recall, or was he using company time to campaign for the recall? Because companies can definitely limit speech in the workplace & many have rules against political activity at work.

If he was dumb enough to work on it on company time, then he probably doesn't have much of a case. But if he worked on it at home, they found out, & then they fired him, then I hope he throws every lawyer he knows at them & makes them pay.
