Ron DeSantis: Kids going back to school comparable to killing Bin Laden

The first rule of politics has long been to never, ever compare anything to Nazi Germany. The murder of 6 million Jews defies comparison. The second rule of politics -- or maybe just an addendum to the first rule -- should be: Never compare anything to the mission that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (yes, him again) seemed to have missed that class in politician school.

Here's DeSantis speaking at an event of a school reopening on Wednesday night in Tallahassee:

"Martin County Superintendent Laurie Gaylord told me she viewed re-opening her schools as a mission akin to a Navy SEAL operation. Just as the SEALs surmounted obstacles to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, so too would the Martin County School system find a way to provide parents with a meaningful choice of in-person instruction or continued distance learning.

I know the article posted and quoted from is an opinion piece, but DeSantis's quote actually happened, and my goodness is it tone-deaf.

Now the nation knows how dumb this guy is. He's gotten worse over the pandemic. Democrats and some Republcians have got better, he is one of the few who got worse and only because Florida was spared an early infection did he look better than Trump. He played this so dumb politically. If he had kept the early advantage Florida had and kept it low afterwards, he would have been a political star. Now he looks like a dummy, which probably solidifies his future as a GOP Presidential candidate but kills his crossover appeal.

Yeah, good governance is generally good politics. I'm not sure if Republicans are completely incapable of either (most likely) or if they are stupid evil so they intentionally act in ways that they know will hurt their constituents.
