She should have been primaried, obviously, but Bibi and his government deserve a lot criticism for their policies in general (other side as well). The deal with the UAE is a good thing, though. At least as a starter.

I mean, she's absolutely right.

Israel is an apartheid state, with a different set of rights for Arabs. They just inscribed in their constitution that Israel is a "state for the Jews" so I don't see how that means anything else but apartheid. Since Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated, Israel has especially descended into right-wing authoritarianism.

Once again I am ashamed that my religion, which survived thousands of years of exile, genocide, pogroms, and forced conversions is now being used as an excuse to oppress another group of people, like Rep. Tlaib's family.

The UAE has never been at war with Israel. The UAE did not even exist as an independent country in 1948 or 1967. They don't share any borders with Israel.

The attempt by the Trump Administration to market this as some groundbreaking peace deal akin to the ones Israel made with Egypt in 1979 or with Jordan in 1994 is just dishonest.

The UAE didn't make any concessions to Israel because there were no concessions to make. Israel didn't make any concessions to the UAE because there were no concessions to make. They just agreed not to do something that's illegal and that it was already clear there wasn't the political will to do in the first place.

This is a nothingburger. You could even make the argument that it makes the Middle East less stable because neither Israel nor any of the Gulf States would want to go to war with Iran by themselves but if they normalized relations and could do it together, it would be that much easier.

The fact that the ethnic background of our Congress people predicts their views on foreign nations is deeply concerning to me. For or against Israel.

Someone whose parents were expelled from their homeland by Israel happens to not like Israel very much. Why is that any more concerning than a Cuban-American congressman whose family had to flee Castro's revolution being hawkish on Cuba?

Honestly, what is so outrageous about Palestinians voicing their displeasure with the military subjugation and creeping annexation of their homeland? Anybody would be pissed off in that scenario. Tlaib obviously doesn't want further legitimization of Israel's current regime, what's so surprising about her disapproving?

I mean you literally make money off stolen land, support candidates who oppress Arabs, and really need to shut the hell up because you are giving us Israel critics/antiwar thinkers a bad rep. She's so fking stupid.

It's amazing how special snowflakes Israel is when they're criticized when they have such a corrupt crook as their leader.

As always, a dumpsterfire thread!

Netanyahu is a corrupt crook who should be in prison.

This is entirely true, but it's also true that this deal is great news for taking annexations off the table and creating a bit more peace and cooperation in the region.

Netanyahu is a corrupt crook who should be in prison.

It's amazing how special snowflakes Israel is when they're criticized when they have such a corrupt crook as their leader.

What are you talking about, who is this 'Israel'?

Leftists- stop arguing from position! "Israel bad Netanyahu bad Trump bad" is the starting point and your arguments are just an attempt to reach it. The deal is just good news. I don't care which crooks reached it.
Of course, it's also important to stress out that we can't let this deal make us forget the Palestinians and the importance of reaching a two state solution.
Tlaib's wording is, as always, abhorrent and meant to incite against Israel and its people. But it is true that we should not let this freeze the need to end the long-term annexations.

What happened in the last two months? You've gone from a reasonable right leaning poster to kind of a bitter sounding hack. I'm certainly not going to defend Tlaib's comments, I think Israel has done some things wrong but so does every other country including the USA. These "gotcha" style posts you've had lately, and similar from lfromnj and dead0man, are really lame and don't foster healthy discussion.

The fact that the ethnic background of our Congress people predicts their views on foreign nations is deeply concerning to me. For or against Israel.

It's not confined to this.  In the 1960s and 1970s, our vocal member of Congress were far more pro-Greece rather than pro-Turkey regarding the situation on Cyprus.  Now that's a different era, the issues were complicated there, and the importance of the relationship with each nation was different then.  But back then, Turkey was an absolutely critical ally in the Cold War, but offending Turkey with rhetoric was of little concern to many of our members of Congress of both parties, who were far more likely to have Greek-American constituents than Turkish-American constituents.  To say nothing of Northeastern Catholic pols of both parties on the issue of Northern Ireland and even the IRA.

For better or worse, this is a logiclal consequence for a democracy that is the "nation of immigrants" that we are and have been over the last 200 years.
