It seems like it’s being pushed to the brink of collapse.

You’re really asking this question? The USPS sucks, should be shut down. If the government can’t even run a post office, how do you expect it to run healthcare?

Also, mail in voting with the USPS? hahahahaha...

-No one sends letters anymore if they're born after like 1970
-Their service is atrocious, took me 4 weeks to get a package shipped from New York, any other service gets that done in a few days.

You do realize the reason why it doesn't work is because the government isn't funding it properly.

Why else would the new Postmaster General institute these new rules like ending overtime?

Complete nonsense. USPS has Priority mail shipping which guarantees shipping in 2 to 3 days and is cheaper than every comparable service outside of Amazon's own delivery service for Prime members. USPS also subsidizes all the private shipping companies with last mile delivery and infrastructure that would make a private parcel system unaffordable/unequal and would simply have Congress giving huge subsidies to a for profit system, which doesn't make sense.

People should learn how things work before they offer uninformed opinions.

Trump is gutting the Post Office and its leadership and continuing the decline that Republicans started by making sure USPS is held to retirement funding standards that no private business has ever been subjected to.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-postoffice/u-s-postal-service-reorganization-sparks-delays-election-questions-idUSKCN258197

Quote
New Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who has donated $2.7 million to Trump and his fellow Republicans since 2017, has ordered operational changes and a clampdown on overtime in a bid to fix the financially troubled service, which reported a net loss of $2.2 billion in the last quarter.

The reorganization, introduced in July, has resulted in thousands of delayed letters in southern Maine, as delivery drivers follow a new directive to leave on time, even if the mail has not been loaded, said Scott Adams, who represents about 550 workers as the president of American Postal Worker Union Local 458.

...Deliveries from online shopping during the pandemic had already stretched the post office to its limits. Delays have also been reported in at least 18 other states, according to media reports.

Postmaster general owns assets in private mailing companies so it's still an intentional effort. His position in itself is a conflict of interest.

As soon as the USPS folds if conservatives have their way, the other carries will just jack up their rates as they have no real competition to keep the price low like they do now. Have fun with that. Also say goodbye to most rural mail delivery in general. Would serve them right I guess though.

Say goodbye to 100,000 jobs for your beloved vets, then.

The USPS is a great service and one of the best programs America's ever instituted. Thankfully Biden's made it a priority and we may see the return of postal banking which would allow low income Americans to have banking services without the fees of predatory companies.

Trump, impatient with the slow nature of lawsuits, suggested last week that the November election be postponed, though he later claimed he was merely trying to highlight the possibility of fraud after he faced a backlash from even members of his own party. Only Congress can change the date of the election.

Since then, Trump has mused to aides about what executive orders, if any, he could sign to curb voting by mail.

“I have the right to do it,” Trump told reporters Monday. “We haven’t gotten there yet. We’ll see what happens.”

Some suggested Trump could try to stop local officials from counting remote ballots after Election Day and direct the Postal Service to not deliver certain ballots to voters using an emergency declaration, according to one of the people.

Paul Steidler, who studies the Postal Service at the right-leaning Lexington Institute, said the president can’t directly order the postmaster general to do anything, noting the Postal Service chief actually reports to a board of governors.

“He can’t order anything directly,” Steidler said. But others argued the postmaster general, a Trump ally and Republican fundraiser, might still be influenced by Trump’s statements.

Isn't it obvious? After decades of being denigrated by the GOP they are finally getting their wish with DeJoy and Trump dismantling the service to further their own selfish interests and needs. And that's at the expense of their own voters by the way. Rural areas rely on the postal service more than suburbs and urban areas, and people are now being disadvantaged when people get their medicine or paychecks through the mail still. Any negative personal interaction with the post office doesn't negate that.

Another downside is that as much as I love 'Seinfeld,' the Newman character isn't funny anymore because his character probably helped contribute to the negative reputation that the postal service has today. And now it may very well be all that is standing in between us and the implosion of our country's political system (a.k.a a second Trump term).

Electronic mail, we pay our Bill's by echeck or debit card, no use for paper checks any longer, and they cost 25.00 and you can do an echeck for free.

Also, letters are faxed or emailed.

He literally just said it out loud now, happy?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/08/13/trump-blurts-out-his-true-motive-blocking-post-office-funding-mail-in-voting/

Quote
Speaking with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business Network on Thursday morning, Trump appeared to confirm that he opposes Democrats’ proposed funding for mail-in balloting and the U.S. Postal Service in order to make it more difficult to expand voting by mail.

“Now they need that money in order to make the post office work, so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” he said. “But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.”

“They don’t have the money to do the universal mail-in voting. So therefore, they can’t do it, I guess,” Trump said. “Are they going to do it even if they don’t have the money?”

He added: “But therefore they don’t have it. They don’t have the money to do the universal mail-in votes.”

And: “Therefore, they can’t do the universal mail-in vote. It’s very simple. How are they going to do it if they don’t have the money to do it?”

Again, the biggest issue with killing the post office is that it will eliminate rural mail delivery. So, again, kill it and hurt your constituents the most.
