I know it's unlikely that it's ever going to happen, but if it were to ever happen, what year do you it would happen?
Which party will will the 49 states? And what's the only state that's voting for the opposite party?

Me, I'm going to say 2068 with the Democrat winning the 49 states while Wyoming is the lone state to vote for Republican.

Megablowouts like that usually happen during the election following the beginning of a new party system, so 1904, 1936 and 1984.

So the next election with potential is 2024, but that won't happen unless Trump runs as an independent while Pence or whoever is the Republican nominee. Polarization is just too high.

Therefore, when the next megablowout is will depend on when the next party system begins (based on history, somewhere between 2052 and 2068) and what level polarization is at at that time.

Sometime in the 2060s or 2070s when Trump is a history lesson to most

Like everyone else here is saying, it can only happen when the factors driving polarization, namely cultural division, dissipate. 2060s is a good guess. Whenever the current voting generations no longer hold the power.

The only way I could see it happening is a decisive American victory in WWIII or a decisive loss where we are still free enough to choose our own leaders on the other side of it.  And I pray to God WWIII never happens.

This, plus a strong 3rd party that only draws votes from one side- see John Anderson 1980 or TR 1912.

Not necessarily. Roosevelt '36, Nixon '72, Reagan '84.
