Were there are people in government or other prominent roles, who thought the US should invade and remove apartheid from South Africa in the 1970s and 80s?

The Soviets did via their local proxy Angola with troops from militaries like Cuba. I'm on a rugby board and South African posters there were conscripted to fight in it, remember a brief discussion about it. They more or less look at it now as "apartheid was bad, so were the communists".
