Both candidates were from the southern faction in their party. How would they have done against each other?

Gore landslide, considering Gore was seen as a DINO on social and foreign policy and the fear of Robertson being theocratic:

Given Robertson was a literal theocrat, this would be landslide.

It wouldn't quite be a fifty-state sweep for Gore (I have Robertson winning Wyoming and maybe Utah, depending on what the Mormon Leadership there does), but it could be very close.

Wyoming wasn't quite as extreme titanium R as it is now at the time. Heck Clinton only lost by 5 in 1992. It’s not a super religious state, more libertarian with an independent streak (hence Perot doing so well there), so I don’t see Robertson playing well there.

Mormons likely would not have trusted Robertson (who certainly is not a Mormon fan), and Gore was fairly pro-life/socially conservative at the time, so I can see them backing him.

Al Gore landslide.
I think that the best state for Pat Robertson would have been Alabama.

As an aside, I'll tell you this: during a conversation about religious fundamentalism, I was able to get my mother to say that Jerry Falwell Sr. "is incompatible with a liberal democracy" after reading some of his quotes. Considering their similarities, I think she might say the same about Robertson.

Absolutely agreed, though I'm not sure Gore would have won all 50 states.
