Assuming Biden wins, I think there are two demographic factors at play:

1)If Biden's running mate isn't African American, then his first pick is very likely to be African American; if not, there's still a very plausible chance that he picks an African American but I don't think it's completely guaranteed (the make-up of the Cabinet and other appointments is also a factor here).
2)The replacement for RBG will almost certainly be a woman, but the replacement for Breyer (who could hypothetically announce his retirement first, though I really hope not given RBG's health) or any of the other male Supreme Court judges could be man.

Having said that, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Leondra Kruger seem like the most likely picks (I guess if I have to go with one, then Kruger), but Jacqueline Nguyen could also be in the conversation.
Biden has literally said numerous times that he's going to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court.

Well first of all, he could still potentially do that even if his first appointment isn't an African American woman. More importantly, if you believe that a politician promising to do something is, in and of itself, an absolute guarantee that he will do it, then I have a bridge to sell you.

It would be different if there were a stronger list of candidates to choose from, but there are basically two reasonably good (by which I mean that they are plausibly qualified, aren't super-controversial, and are under 65 and ideally under 50) female African American candidates, unless you want to expand the pool to include non-traditional picks like Kamala Harris. Given the potential for skeletons-in-the-closet, health issues, ideological issues (you don't want a reverse-Souter), etc., it would be pretty foolish for Biden to limit his short list to just two candidates, even if he does ultimately pick one of those candidates.
Biden would receive huge backlash from Black voters if he went back on his word. Anyways, who said that he would only look at 2 candidates?

Finally, the inference in his previous statements is that his FIRST Supreme Court pick would be a Black woman.

As long as Biden wins, I have a hard time imagining it wouldn't be Kentanji Brown Jackson.

If Trump wins or there's a vacancy before the election or inauguration, I would think Barrett would be at the top of the list.

Hopefully Brown-Jackson to replace Ginsburg and Goodwin Liu to replace Breyer or Thomas.

Ketanji Brown Jackson is my guess if Biden wins, which is very likely. If Trump wins, then Amy Coney Barrett is my guess.

Leondra Kruger and Jacqueline Nguyen.
It's time for the Democrats to follow Republicans' lead and nominate young people who will sit on the bench for many decades.

If Trump gets re-elected, Amy Coney Barrett (this would be horrifying).

If Biden gets elected, Kentanji Brown Jackson.

If Trump wins re-election, then Amy Coney Barrett.

If Biden wins, then Ketanji Brown Jackson or Leondra Kruger.

KBJ, unless he's replacing Roberts, in which case Barack Obama.

The next Supreme Court justice will be Amy Barrett or Ketanji Jackson. The next will be Amul Thapar or Sri Srivinisan.

If I had my choice, I'd appoint Don Willett and Eugene Volokh.

As long as Biden wins, I have a hard time imagining it wouldn't be Kentanji Brown Jackson.

If Trump wins or there's a vacancy before the election or inauguration, I would think Barrett would be at the top of the list.

Y'all only get one choice Wink

You are allowed to change your choice if your nominee is disqualified in some meaningful way (scandal, disbarred, makes clear that they don't want it, etc.) or the Presidency changes.

Great discussion and choices!

Also, the list is updated to here  Cheesy

Well then, I'll say Ketanji Brown Jackson, because Biden has a 80-90% chance of winning

Biden will appoint a black woman to replace RBG. If he gets another pick it will either be a person of asian descent or a Jewish person.
Democrats don’t pick white Christians to be on the Supreme Court (haven’t since the 1960s) so you can rule them out.

^^^
I hope.
Over four years ago, when Obama was considering who to nominate for the Supreme Court to replace the late Justice Scalia, one of the names mentioned in the press was Srinivasan, and I read an article which said Srinivasan has "a deep respect for the need for strict objectivity and impartiality in the task of judging." That's precisely what we need on the SCOTUS.

If it's one choice only, then I'm betting on Ketanji Brown Jackson, since Biden is favored at this juncture in November.

This is now relevant.

Please observe the rules below. If you're already responded before, you may not change your nominee unless it fits within the rules below (disqualified in some meaningful way or new President).

Who do you think the next Supreme Court Justice will be?

Changes will only be allowed if your nominee is disqualified in some meaningful way (scandal, disbarred, makes clear that they don't want it, etc.) or the Presidency changes.

NOTE: Please do not modify your post to change your selection. Any modification will result in a DQ. If you need to change your choice for the above, make a new post. If you made a spelling error, just PM me or I'll probably figure it out Wink

Singular points will be awarded per:
  • Nomination
  • Committee Hearing
  • Successful Confirmation

So if a Justice is confirmed, you would get 3 points.

This will be a running tally.

I greatly hope all our Justices may serve until they cannot any longer either by choice, age, or in the most unfortunate way, passing in office.

If this gains popularity, I may expand it to the Circuit Courts  Cheesy
