Yeah but Murkowski actually voted against Kavanaugh and as of late was I think the only Republican to publicly acknowledge she agreed with Mattis about Trump and was the only R to join the Dems in calling for an updated Voting Rights Act recently. The witness vote from Collins really didn’t matter in the end since she still didn’t vote to convict. Plus she went on about Trump “learning his lesson;” Murkowski on the other hand has come as close as it gets for an R to admit he really is that bad. She’s also about as good as I expect a senator from Alaska to be, whereas I expect better than Collins from Maine.

Collins is a fraud. Murkowski actually shows some independence.

If Collins were the deciding vote, she would have also voted no on witnesses.

Murkowski voted with Trump 75 % of the time representing a state that voted for him by 14 pts., while Collins voted 68 % of the time being Senator for a state he lost by 3 pts.

Murkowski might be less moderate, but considering the political leanings of her state, she's more independent-minded. Collins mostly votes against Trump on key issues when it is necessary to keep the image of the "mOdErAtE iNdEpEnDeNt", knowing her vote doesn't mean anything since majorities are clear (see Kavanaugh). ACA repeal and maybe Betsy DeVos being the most prominent exceptions.

Collins, but I'd prefer the Republicans were like these two than whatever has corrupted the current party.

Collins is a much better politician in terms of civic governance even if I disagree with her on a lot. Murkowski is something closer to the posterchild of swamp creature.

Once again the Murko love baffles me and most of it is just because of her relative positioning vis a vis Trump. Having come into politics in the Bush years, I have a more balanced perspective on her, how she got there and what interests she serves.

Murkowski voted against DeVos and Kavanaugh. Murkowski is more conservative than Collins, but Alaska is far more conservative than Maine. A Republican from a more conservative state voted against Kavanaugh and DeVos.

Murkowski is Bush era swamp more so than Trump era swamp.

A product of nepotism, appointed to the Senate by her father (who was vacating the same seat) and thus part of that web of established Alaska politicians who were all for the most part disgraced, sent to jail or got ridden out of town on a rail (with the exception of Don Young since he is Don Young). A lot of ties to big oil, construction and related scandals and so forth. The elder Murkowski was driven out of the Governorship with like an 18 approval rating.

If Miller hadn't turned out to be so flawed, it is very likely she wouldn't have survived 2010. A lot of people voted for her because he had so many issues late in the game.

Say what you will but at least Collins had the guts to take a side one way or another instead of chickening out and voting "present" on Kavanaugh. I know most of Atlas doesn't like the vote, but she still could've deputized Murk to swap votes with her, they're friends, but she did it herself.

Murkowski voted present because Steve Daines was absent because of his daughter's wedding. If Daines weren't absent, Murkowski would have voted no.

Collins, easily. She has to be a moderate where she is, and she still made the right decision on Kavanaugh. Murkowski on the other hand is eminently replaceable.

Murkowski says she doesn't want a replacement for Ginsburg confirmed in a Trump lame duck session if there's a vacancy. Does Collins believe that too?

Apparently the Kavanaugh vote matters more than actually analysing the backgrounds and the decades long social, economic or environmental records of these two politicians. Its also hilarious how the same characters who slam Paul and Collins as being Trump hacks applaud Murkowski and Romney for their "independence" despite the fact that the latter two have voted in line with Trump significantly more than the former two. Just goes to show that the yuppies of atlas care more about virtue signalling over hot topics rather than genuine concern for "social welfare" or "political independence".

Anyway, Collins easily for being a Republican who has demonstrated a strong concern for environmental welfare and for not being some machine creature (unlike Murkowski). She is easily among the best in the senate at the moment
