If Obama defeated Romney in 2008, how would McCain do against Obama in 2012?

McCain wouldnt run in that case and in that case I think Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Mitch Daniels run and Tim Pawlenty gets more support too

About the same. I honestly don’t think flipping Obama’s opponents would affect either year much. Romney might have won Indiana and lost Missouri/Montana or something in 2008. Maybe McCain wins Colorado or Nevada in 2012 or something? But I don’t see major changes on either map.

Well, Romney would have done far worse than McCain in 2008, So McCain really can't do worse from a purely electoral standpoint. However, the big question would be his age (which already was an issue in 2008)

Barack Obama/Joe Biden 49% 299 EV
John McCain/Kelly Ayotte 47% 239 EV

McCain's extra campaigning, plus the pick of Ayotte gives him New Hampshire. His strengths compared to Romney, give him Florida. Everything else is basically the OTL 2012 map.
