Well, this is a pleasant surprise! Unexpected, but... cool? Welcome to the team, I guess. We might need your skills.

A coalition of cranks.  Fascists and Communists together.  God Bless them.

I'm loathe to agree with Ammon Bundy on anything, but I do think he's onto something when he talks about defunding "police" versus defunding Sheriff's Offices, which are headed by elected officials who have accountability at the ballot box.  In that respect, I agree.

I've lived within the city limits of an incorporated city and I've lived in "the county" (unincorporated areas of the county of my residence) and I can assure you that there are far less intrusions to one's personal liberty living in "the county".  I once had police seek and enforce a civil fine against me because my burglar alarm went off too many times and when cars came by, no one was there.  Well, of course, no one was there; my system was installed explicitly because of that.  They told me I was supposed to have a "key person"; someone next door with a key who'd hear my alarm, somehow, and call police and tell them not to come.  My choices in that matter were an 80-something woman and a family whose son was into the drug scene that I was trying to keep my oldest son from.  To  say nothing about pulling over cars for "no tag light" or ticketing me for "parking on a swale" in front of my own property.

All of that doesn't make Ammon Bundy a normal person, but he's got a point that deserves discussion by serious people.  BLM are not serious people; they are Marxists with ulterior motives.  Ammon Bundy isn't a serious person even when he makes a serious argument.

You should hire a private security company to investigate your alarms going off instead of relying on big government police with all their unecessary rules and regulations. This is conservatism 101 dude. Can't afford it? Pull yourself up by your boot straps and make more money.

Living with the city means having to get a license for your private security system.  The security system WAS private, but the municipality charges a fee, and fines people for "excessive calls" where nothing is reported.  It WAS a private system, and I DID pay for it myself.

I pay tax dollars for public safety.  The municipality seemingly doesn't believe that one reason they had many calls where they found nothing was because the alarm frightened off a potential intruder.  I don't live in that city anymore, and my concern was not for burglars; it was for thug druggies that I ran off during the days when my oldest son had serious issues with drugs and the drug scene.  (And I have been burglarized in broad daylight; it was sheer intimidation, as I don't have a lot of valuable stuff burglars would readily want.)

I meant "private" in the sense that it doesn't notify the police at all, rather, it informs your security company to send a private security team to investigate and potentially apprehend (with or without police assistance). Maybe I worded it poorly.

I have to respect someone standing up for their beliefs, even when it brings them into alignment with a cause that "their side" generally opposes.

Like many on the left, I've been sarcastic about people on the right who have spent years complaining about government tyranny, but look away (or worse, smile and cheer), at American federal law enforcement acting like our own version of the Gestapo. I'm glad to see someone on the right matching their words with their actions. I know something like this, or Senator Romney's "guilty" vote are not easy for the people taking these actions, and I'm very glad to see them.

While I hope the shoe is never on the other foot, if it ever is, we on the left need to show the same dedication to our principles. And perhaps this can be a positive reminder that even with all our political differences, some of us on the left and the right can work together in good faith.

Yet another thread derailed by Fuzzy Bear, this time for a meandering anecdote about his burglar alarm and a bio of his neighbors.

What would you rather they do? Just ignore the alarms and never come?

If they have to respond to an alarm, that takes time and money and gas and personnel. If your alarm is going off constantly, you're forcing them to use an above-average amount of resources and it's not shocking that past a certain point they'd expect you to pay for them.
