With Al Gore as their nominee, how would Dems have done against Bush 41 in 1992 in a 2-way race? Who would have been Gore's VP? Discuss with maps.

Al Gore would have won. Poppy Bush was too unpopular by 1992 to get reelected, even if some Republicans spjn the narrative he only lost because of Perot. Polls clearly showed that Perot was taking votes from both sides almost equally.

✓ Senator Albert Arnold Gore (D-TN)/Senator Thomas Richard Harkin (D-IA): 329 EV. (51.74%)
President George Herbert Walker Bush (R-TX)/Vice President J. Danforth Quayle (R-IN): 209 EV. (46.64%)

He was not yet known as an environmentalist in 1992.

What about Bush 41's Ozone Man attacks on Gore?

What about Bush 41's Ozone Man attacks on Gore?

I mean he had warned about global warming earlier than most, but it's not like he had made An Inconvenient Truth yet or anything, and it doesn't seem like that attack stuck as it was. I don't think it would have made a huge difference even if he was at the top of the ticket. The implications of this on coal were too remote yet for most voters in these states to probably care. Part of the reason he lost them in 2000, though, was that the Clinton administration implemented regulations on coal in his second term. Even still, Gore won some of the deepest parts of coal country in KY and WV that haven't been won by a Dem since. So I'm sure he could have held on to them eight years earlier before any of that.
