Would Kerry being President have really changed much here?

Of the six seats Democrats took FROM Republicans, the only one that was even remotely close was Maryland (it was also the only defeat of an incumbent, as the other gains were open seats)...so maybe Ehrlich could've won. Still, that's 7 points.

Republicans didn't take any seats from Democrats. Of the ones Democrats were defending, their smallest wins were in Maine, Oregon, and Wisconsin. but those were all still 8 points each. There's a few other races where the Democrat won by low double digits (Blagojevich, who also finished under 50%), but that's it. Red state Democratic governors all won by HUGE margins!! (so did a few blue state Republicans, to be fair).

Republicans may have run better candidates in some elections, but that makes it unpredictable what would've happened.
