The year is 2010, and 23 years have passed since the collapse of the United States. The Soviets have hegemony over mainland Europe, and America is on the brink of a reunification war. Now it's your turn to determine the course of history through a series of elections.
In celebration of the Red World Fan Fork finally being released (RIP Kaiser1871), I wanted to have this little mini-interactive TL. In reality these are mostly separate elections that will influence little as America falls into war in almost every possible path. Still I thought it would be interesting to see how this turns out.
PLEASE don't spoil anything.
US Presidential Election, 2010
It's nearing 30 years since the collapse of the USA after Reagan's resignation. The American Republic (or "the Remnants") remains strong with a foothold in the South. Incumbent Republican President Donald Rumsfeld is seeking a second term to office to continue his hardline nationalist agenda. He faces 3 challengers:
Jeb Bush: as a member of the extremely influential Bush family (H.W. built the Republic) Jeb is essentially running on name recognition alone, with a vague platform. Although he is a part of the nationalistic Republican Party, it's an open question if he's on the more moderate or hardline side.
Robert Bentley: Running under the Independence Union banner, Bentley is pushing for a more moderate, "true conservative" agenda with tax cuts and free markets.
David Duke: Leader of the American Revival party, Duke stands for a stronger government, heavier militarism, and American Unionism (whether by words or force). There's some serious questions as to whether his past... friends have influence on him, or if he could push for a Corporate State.
