Former politicians who tried to make comeback bids and flopped epically. Which one had the most embarrassing outcome?

Of these, Sessions and it’s not even close. Absolutely degraded himself just to lose by 20

Sessions, although Ted Strickland deserves an honorable mention, as he lost by almost the same margin that Sessions did tonight.

Sessions. All the others won their primaries.

Sessions. All the others won their primaries.

This is incorrect. Pawlenty lost the gubernatorial primary in Minnesota to Jeff Johnson, who went on to lose the general election to Tim Walz.

Oh damn, forgot about that. You're right, T-Paw is a strong contender, especially since he'd been considered a serious presidential candidate not too long ago.

Bayh didn't technically win the primary either. Former Congressman Baron Hill did, and then withdrew a couple months later to allow the state party to choose Bayh as the nominee.

Martha Coakley is really good at losing elections despite enormous partisan advantages.

Damn, I totally forgot about Strickland in 2016.

But, I have to go with Sessions because of the heights he fell from. He wasn't just trying to win back a Senate seat, like Bayh for example, his last job was freaking Attorney General of the United States. A year and a half after leaving that job and he can't even win the primary for his old seat against a former football coach.

Not Pawlenty. Lost to Jeff Johnson, a proven loser, from literally the last gubernatorial.

Strickland. He did worse than Lee Fisher in 2010. Now THAT is embarassing.

Sessions.

Bob Kerrey’s attempted comeback was also a bit embarrassing.

Sessions completely degraded himself to lose Tuscaloosa to an ex-Auburn coach. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Not sure I would call Sessions losing the primary an embarrassment.  More like his whole experience with Trump has been a humiliation.  Not that I really care.
