https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/dead-cat-receives-voter-registration-application-in-the-mail

Quote
"We have a voter registration application for Cody Tims," Carol Tims told Fox 5 of Atlanta. "How did this happen? It's not reality, he's a cat and he's been dead for a long time."

The Tims family keeps the cat's ashes in a green container. The family said the application probably comes as a big voter registration push continues ahead of the 2020 election.

...

The Office of the Georgia Secretary of State said the application didn't come from their office, and that third-party groups often use mailing lists to get names and addresses.

"Third-party groups all over the country are targeting Georgia to help register qualified individuals," they said in a statement. "This group makes you wonder what these out-of-town activists are really doing. Make no mistake about it, this office is dedicated to investigating all types of fraud."

When it comes to the Republicans’ declining registration strength in Georgia, this could merely be a sign of a... (wait for it)... dead cat bounce.

I know I shouldn't laugh but a cat whose name is Cody Tims really amuses me.

How would some "third party group" know a dead cat's name? That's not exactly something that is a matter of public record.

Well, it's official. Voting by mail is nothing but a recipe for fraud. Shut it all down. /GOP

If cats can serve on juries, then they should be allowed to vote.  (Though being dead is probably a disqualification.  Maybe both zombies and cats should vote, but zombie cats is probably a step too far.)

His owner says that he was a Democat. Since he lived in Atlanta, it was probably a Democrat group. They probably had some software that scanned MySpace (Cody died 12 years ago) and checked names. Puff or Spot wouldn't get registrations.

...That is some really flawed reasoning right there.

Who care

You can't vote in Georgia without photo ID, you can't get a mail ballot unless you've voted in-person at least once showing said photo ID, and the SoS is in charge of verifying/validating all registrations. Unless they processed the registration successfully, there's no story (and even then, it falls ultimately in the lap of the Republican SoS).

For what it's worth, approximately 95% of all eligible Georgian adult citizens are already registered to vote thanks to a combination of traditional registration, online registration and (mostly) AVR via the DMV (implemented by the GOP in late 2016).

Unless you're targeting very specific groups and individuals who have either just come of age and do not have driver's licenses or who have moved since their last license update/VR submission, wasting resources on voter registration in GA at this point is stupid. Whatever group did this is probably just spamming forms to every name they can find in an attempt to extract an ever-diminishing return on investment with this method (which, again, doesn't inherently lead to any acts of voter fraud that alter outcomes, as you need to provide at least the last 4 of your SSN or D/L ID to successfully register - then subsequently show a valid photo ID to vote).

That would make a great name for a dance craze sweeping the nation...

In fairness, despite most Dems on Atlas claiming that vote by mail is more secure and what not, the opposite is true.

It is much, much easier to rig a vote by mail election, both because of more opportunities for ballot tampering and because of issues sending and receiving ballots. You can be 100% sure that many votes from the predominantly black neighbourhoods in Atlanta and what not will be lost on their way to the counting stations.

Granted a lot of this comes because my very personal experiences with mail elections are nothing but negative. From my ballot never arriving to a corruption scandal to rig an election a few towns over, vote by mail is indeed dangerous.

It should still be an option don't get me wrong, but if you can vote in person, please go vote in person. The safest way to vote is by putting a paper ballot on a box and then counting the ballots under supervision. Like it has been done for decades.
