Another signatory begging the 'free speech' activists to stop harassing another critic of the letter.

You assume he's doing that because he's appalled with their behaviour rather than because he fears being fired if he doesn't go out to bat for her. I doubt that assumption is a given considering his recent interactions with Ezra Klein and his decision to purge his entire Twitter feed.

Regardless, "Some of this proposal's supporters suck, so it's bad," is a terrible, terrible argument and the basis of many awful policies/campaigns. It is, after all, what Trump is running against police reform on.

I'm sure Yglesias is sincere in not wanting his co-workers to be harassed (though I'm not sure the feeling is mutual), but there's no basis for the assumption that a few nasty internet trolls are in any way characteristic of all those concerned about people being punished by woke mobs and HR departments.

This is just amazing. This is the guy who spearheaded the letter.

This is exactly what I was referring to here
While there are examples like Shor’s firing of #cancelculture going too far the problem I have with this letter is that is conflates examples like that with JK Rowling and Bari Weiss going “wahh people on Twitter told me my borderline bigoted views are trash. I’m being silenced!”. And I generally tend to feel little sympathy for the “pc is going too far” people because many come from the latter camp then the former
So much of the anti-pc movement is lead by massive hypocrites who have tried to “silence” views they don’t like be Bari Weiss trying to get a Palestinian teacher fired for not being pro-Israel enough, Bret Stephens and the bedbug episode, and now this guy.

The last three tweets on this thread are:

Some rando with 75 followers

David Klion of "I hope you cry when you're forced to vote for Sanders" fame

Current Affairs, which is just Nathan Robinson's personal soapbox, Robinson being famous for "yeah I coached Tara Reade and her brother in how to construct a false rape allegation against the Vice President, but if I delete all the tweets bragging about it then it's ok, right?"

Really shows how much this conversation has devolved.

Twitter in general has a propensity to treat even the slightest shred of evidence as fact to fit a presupposed narrative. I don’t trust twitter for anything other than links to actual sources.

Good for Bari Weiss. It sounds like the NY Times has become a complete cesspool. I'm sure she will land on her feet.

Or you could look past the tweets at what is being cited?

Asking someone to leave your house because they keep ranting awful things about your friend  =/= trying to get someone fired and ruin their reputation because of a bad opinion.

I would rather have sepsis than care about any of the Personalities involved in this (or in the New York media world in general), but there's no obvious contradiction between having a liberal position on the regulation of the Public Sphere and having your own (invariably much more restrictive) rules in your own private space. Although perhaps a disbelief in certain circles of the idea of the Public Sphere is one of the issues here?

Lol at the people trying to dance around this. Ruining peoples lives over some "problematic" comment they made is ridiculous and indefensible. Plain and simple
