I heard about this idea a long time ago. I also heard that people in your dreams are really a part of you rather than about someone else. I don't believe it literally but it is a good story, and the point is that we should treat others as if they are part of ourselves.

I've always thought that reincarnation as a concept would only work for me if all human being were ultimately a single soul passing through every life. It also helps a lot with the paradox of consciousness, which is one of the few philosophical problems that make me legitimately angsty.

Everything around this basic idea seems like fluff to me (which is fine of course, every good story needs fluff).
