We don’t know the exact electoral college victory but let’s say that the Democrats win the electoral college. The Democrats also win the popular vote by ~ 5%.

Any thoughts on what the party platforms would be? What changes happened in America to result in such an electoral college map?

Also, for the fun of it, what would a GOP win of about 5% look like with this map?

I would say that the Republicans in this scenario double down on Trump-style economics, but move toward the far-left on social issues, whereas the Democrats make gains with Southern whites and Mormons and solidify their gains with Hispanic voters and African-American voters.

Republicans align with unions to solidifies Midwest, NV, and Oregon while CA turns GOP after the state goes bankrupt after decades of Democrat control.

Southern states turn left with tech jobs and young urban professionals move there bringing liberal voting patterns with them. Democrats also become more big business friendly than in current day and move to the right on economics (1990’s style).

The other possible scenario is that GOP becomes Catholic identity  party which sends evangelicals and Mormons to the Dems. MA and FL vote us close because of large Catholic populations too.

That could be possible as well, as the white Catholic vote has trended heavily towards the Republicans under President Donald Trump.

WTF 48 years is too many.

Anyways, I'll place some bets.

The Silicon Valley has rusted and is now known as the Old Quartz Valley (quartz is silicon oxyde).

Republicans have thrived in the newburbs, that is everything in the Northeast Megalopolis that is not a true historic city.

The space and aero industry is favorable to the Democrats for some reason.

Scores of Black people have moved from Chicago and other Midwestern cities to the South.

Arkansas is the poorest state.

The Appalachian vote has returned to be balkanized.

Hispanic voting preferences vary greatly from state to state, almost as much as non-Hispanic White voting preferences do, and probably the social perception of the term Hispanic/Latino has changed.

Asian Americans have migrated the hell out of California.
