If Kanye actually follows through on a full-out Indy bid, I suspect it would have a relatively negligible impact on the black vote.  It may have had a more pronounced effect if he hadn't been so ardently pro-Trump during the past couple of years.

His race aside, though, it helps that he already has extremely wide name recognition.  But he's running short on time.  Across the past forty years, the biggest third-party "spoilers" all began their third-party campaigns in, at the very least, January or February of the election year.  Both Gary Johnson and Ralph Nader had run in previous elections (though with much less name recognition than in 2016 and 2000, respectively).  And in 1992, Ross Perot had a surprisingly clear and resonating set of policies that took advantage of the growing resentment towards establishment politicians.

I'm not confident that Kanye can pull together a viable third-party campaign in a matter of months, but then again: it's 2020 -- who knows?

He’s doing this collaboratively with Trump in hopes to stop Biden.

Yes, Ds took African American vote for granted when they pushed Bernie out the way and endorsed Biden. They had to get Obama out to help Biden, get Clyburn, before ST, due to fact Biden was getting ready to lose

More African Americans males are unimpressed by Biden than African American females. So, he will take more male voters than female voters

LOL if you think many black voters would vote for Kanye.

They seem him as an 'Uncle Tom' figure.

The last thing they want is a black dude that is subservient to a white dude.

Not true, most of the states Kayne will take from are from Dewp South States, Tim Scott, Clarence Thomas and JC Watts came from GA, OK and SC whom are Uncle Tom figures, I think the South is gonna go to Trump anyways, but OH, WI, MI, PA, NY, NJ, IL, CA, you are right AA dont like Uncle Tom's. That why my map shows the South going R except for GA, and this was before Kayne announcement

Ca. 10 states already had their filing deadlines for Indy candidates in the General Election.

Which means Kanye won't be on the ballot for example in TX, NY, IN, NM or NC.

Many deadlines are coming up in July, but most in August and a handful in early September.

It would take some time to file with the FEC and gather 100.000s of signatures in the remaining 40 states, so he will definitely miss ballot access in at least 20 states ...

So this entire thread has been a mix of people taking this seriously because they have no idea who Kanye is and how he acts and a bunch of cranky boomers reminding us that (C)RAP ISN’T REAL MUSIC

Kanye stans are mostly Fantanocore white millennials in their thirties or late 20s. Eminem would probably siphon more black voters than Kanye in 2020.

Damn, he sent out that tweet an hour ago and he's already got like 3 threads

This is a political forum after all.

True that. I just think the reaction is a bit overblown. Then again, it's been nothing but 4 years of Chicken Little here. The reason to this "story" being particularly hysterical

Just remember most people thought Trump was joking when he declared.

But Trump has been involved in Republican politics for at least four years by that point.

Romney wheeled out Trump's endorsement like it has a useful Party figure. He had a base in the GOP by 2011.

Kanye does not have a political base

I've noticed some people unironically backing him.  If you think a guy that has been referred to as a megalomaniac control freak would be a good President you're just making dumb choices.

Not to mention, you would be voting against the first black VP who could truly take office in early 2021. Unlike Kanye and co.

Some starters:

"Put West in the West Wing"
"YE we can"
"Not Ye, us"

There's plenty of great hip hop albums out there, I was just never big on MBDTF

Also, I was born a quarter century too late to be a boomer - I'm a millennial

States where the filing deadline has already passed for an independent candidate:

Indiana
Maine
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
Texas

Well, that's not too bad, right? That's only six states!

Thing is, there's a bunch more in July, including some with extremely high signatures. 10,000 signatures by July 15th for South Carolina. 132,781(!) signatures by July 15th for Florida. 30,000 signatures by July 16th for Michigan.

Yeah, that’s a logistical nightmare for a guy with no political advisers / machine behind him.

He’ll miss at least 20 states, even if he files with the FEC in the next days ...

I'd argue that people are not taking this seriously enough. Sure, there is very good reason to believe that this will crash and brun very fast and amount to nothing. But if he actually succeeds in putting together a team and get on the ballot in most states, then he could be a serious spoiler candidate and make no mistake about it, the candidate that he would hurt would be Joe Biden. Having said that, I do believe that after four years of the disaster that has been the Trump presidency, there is very little appetite for another dimwit narcissistic celebrity candidate.

Setting aside the fact that it is now implausible in most states for him to get on the ballot, what evidence do you have that 'the candidate that he would hurt would be Joe Biden'?

Black voters tend to vote for third-party candidates relatively lower than other groups as well so...
