I was reading the Wikipedia article about famous people from Delaware, and apparently the guy who invented the Heimlich maneuver is from there. Even though most people probably don't know his first name (I sure as heck didn't), they've definitely heard of the maneuver.

Aside from the Du Ponts, the other particularly influential family from Delaware is the Bayards, who had four generations serve in the U.S. Senate, two of whom are particularly notable imo. James A. Bayard was a Federalist congressmen who played a key role in the contingent election of 1800 by supporting Jefferson over Burr, and later helped negotiate the Treaty of Ghent. Thomas F. Bayard came reasonably close to winning the Democratic presidential nomination in 1880 and later served as Secretary of State under Grover Cleveland.

One other Delawarean I occasionally think of is William Roth, the namesake of the Roth IRA.
