Politico's headline right now is about the possibility that Tucker Carlson, a right-wing host from Fox News, will run in 2024 if Donald Trump loses in 2020: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/02/tucker-carlson-2024-republicans-348334

Sorry to rush through 2020 and onto 2024, but what would the map look like if Joe retired after one term and it was Kamala vs. Tucker?

How does a President Tucker Carlson differ from Donald Trump?

If Tucker Carlson runs, he'll definitely win the primary.

I think Harris beats most realistic Republican nominees - DeSantis, Trump Jr, Cruz, etc. Nikki Haley would be a tougher opponent but the GOP would not nominate a woman of color right now.

Carlson is a tough opponent to beat. He's basically Trump if Trump spoke in complete sentences and focused on kitchen-table populist issues (even if his solutions are dead wrong). If Carlson is on a stage talking about China taking advantage of the US, opioid addiction, and the need to focus on trades instead of colleges... it'll be hard to see him lose.

He's an evil, soulless, white supremacist but he's MUCH better at communicating than Trump.

Tucker Carlson would have to change his party registration from his current status (Democratic), but if he were to be elected it would likely play out like the novel/miniseries The Plot Against America.

Oh my god. If this is indeed what GOP insiders are thinking then they are short-sighted. Good television ratings do not translate to being an effective party leader.

In order to defeat a formidable candidate rhetorician like Carlson, Democrats need a strong candidate themselves. Kamala Harris is not. She loses.

https://www.yapms.com/app/?m=2hx5

Of course, this assumes that Carlson can transition himself from talk show host to candidate and can convince the people he's able to lead, as many independents that are otherwise right wing won't all view Trump's memory positively.

With Tucker, it all boils down to how intelligent and articulate he sounds off script, or if he's just an idjit who reads a teleprompter, like Hannity.  I've made no secret that I prefer his economic and foreign policy vision to be the future of the GOP, but I don't know if he's the right person to play that role.

2024 will almost certainly be the election that solidifies the parties realignment.  The GOP can't cock it up.

Clips like this hint that Tucker is a bit smarter than what he gets credit for.

He's not. Tucker isn't racially aware and he's terrible on social issues. And he doesn't do enough to address immigration

LOL Illinois.

Anyways, he would be a formidable opponent, but not unbeatable.

A Tucker Carlson GOP would further bleed support in the suburbs and with minorities.

You know I've been thinking Trump Jr. would be the heir to the Trump legacy, but maybe it's Tucker, the more I see of him and with people seriously talking about him running in 2024, he does seem like a more competent and serious version of Trump.

And a more competent version of Trump could definitely win, dems should be worried about this.

He does live in D.C.

Tucker needs to hone in his debating skills and policy chops, but 3 years is a long time in terms of politics so the potential is there, if he wants it.

Communicating maybe, but not debating. Whenever he brings people on his show he lets them speak for a few seconds with his mouth gaping open then loudly interrupts them.

My guess for Carlson vs Harris

Carlson wins the PV by under 1%

Depends on how people view the Biden administration. If the pandemic goes on for years and we experience an economic depression (which seems likely to me), she may well be pretty unpopular.

Minnesota would be fairly tough to crack, and I don't think he has a path to the PV.

This is insane. Kamala would crush him.

Although she isn't the worst candidate the Democratic party could give, Kamala is average, at best.  She's no Obama and no (Bill) Clinton.

Perhaps, but Carlson is a uniquely poor candidate.

Harris would annihilate Carlson. Plus the last of the "concerned" Republicans would probably leave the party, too, let's add in that Harris hasn't been smeared with conspiracy theories for years, unlike Clinton, and Americans have already seen the disaster of four years of Trump. This has landslide written all over it. The GOP would also have trouble recovering from this blowout and could end up in the minority for years, if Carlson is actually nominated. For this reason, the party establishment will do everything it can to stop him, I'd imagine Nikki Haley and/or Larry Hogan emerge as establishment favorites.

Honestly you end up with this:

The problem with partisan pundits like Tucker Carlson is that they have too much recorded material to draw from for advertising and good snippets for stump speeches, headlines, debates, etc.

People like Tucker are the scary scenario, because it sets up the world where all the fascism and white nationalism has already been normalized by Trump, and then someone worse than him comes along, is elected, and we no longer have a democracy.
