Option 2, given that I think Dems are favored to win the Senate in 2020 as is, but they would still obviously be in a better position if both of them won.

In this scenario, is it possible that the likelihood of people like Hickenlooper & Bullock running is reduced (remember, they made many public statements rejecting Senate runs before finally acquiescing)?

I think we could do better without Hickenlooper at this point.

I'm not sure I understand the point of these threads. It seems plainly obvious that if the Democrats were currently closer to having a majority, that they would have a better shot at getting a majority in the next election lol

49 is closer to 50 than 47.

I thought it was widely accepted that O' Rourke ran a terrific campaign.

Obviously very likely to matter. If Dems got 49 seats rn, they'd be practically guaranteed to take the Senate- just knocking off Gardener and McSally (while keeping Peters) would do the trick, neither of which is a problem. Actually, just Nelson winning would be a colossal deal- with Collins a fairly easy target too, that last seat (from elusive NC, red Montana or runoff-y Georgia) is by far the hardest to get.

Beto wasnt gonna win with Valdez instead of White on the ballot. Dems gaffe when they nominated Valdez as a candidate.  But all the talk of a Supermajority Senate is silly, now. Net gain 2 to 4 Seats, not 7 or 10.

Jones is only down by 3 pts

O’Rourke ran a great campaign in 2018

This, even though I voted for Ted Cruz.

O'Rourke's 2018 campaign was excellent, we shouldn't confuse with his 2020 campaign.

Why? I can understand it if you were a standard Republican, but you are a self-described moderate-liberal who is voting for Biden.

It just seems a little irreconcilable since there is essentially no real difference between Trump and Cruz.

This. And Beto ran a great campaign. Maybe he should have tried again this year, when we're probably headed for a Biden landslide in November. Unfortunately, Beto wasted his time with a presidential run that went nowhere.

Nelson was the only loss from 2018 that could have been avoided by running a better campaign.

Obviously it would matter.  Right now it could go either way.  If Democrats had those two seats they'd almost certainly win majority control this year.
