Lived in Kansas his whole life, war hero, opposed the assault weapons ban and standardized tests, reliably pro-life. Bush 43 supported the assault weapons ban; pushed No Child Left Behind, supported AIDS victims and amnesty for immigrants, and said “gays are people too”, McCain was a “maverick”, Romney had his career in Massachusettes, and Trump is a playboy from NYC.

It's noteworthy that Bob Dole is the only GOP presidential nominee alive during Trump's campaigns who had a sincere support for Trump. He seems to be more in tune the average Republican voter, yeah. Sadly, he's a bit too old to take a more active role.

I definitely like him better than Bush, McCain or Romney (and, as a person, Trump). I still would have been an enthusiastic Buchanan voter in the 1996 primary, though.

Bob Dole was a good fit for red America because Bob Dole was a red American himself. Bob Dole!

Tbh, it would be nice if we had Dole as Majority Leader instead of McConnell. The Senate seemed like a much nicer and warmer place in the 80s and 90s.

I think Anita Hill thinks otherwise

This read as if you like Trump better than Dole ... why?  Bob Dole was just as socially conservative, much less offensive and (as you say) a better person.
