A Declaration on the Operation of the Suez Canal

Quote
We, the Undersigned, declare without regard to the current conflict occurring within the Eyalet of Egypt, that the right of travel through the Suez is of paramount interest to the peace and prosperity of the civilized world. As such, the Suez Maritime Canal should always be free and open, in time of war as in time of peace, to every vessel of commerce or of war, without distinction of flag.

A statement by the Foreign Secretary Viscount Melbourne, on the events in France, delievered to the House of Lords

This house, this Government and our nation sends its condolences to the the people of France and to King Louis over the appauling murder of his son, the Dauphin. This is an outrageous and brutal act of violence which rightly deserves to be punished.

Any individaul or group linked to this appauling murder that is found in these lands shall be dealt with to the full extend of the law.

We trust that our good friends in the Netherlands shall take similar action and shall not allow such tyranny and violence to go unchecked.

This responsbility goes hand in hand with the need for stability and co-operation on the continent; we know that it would be disastrous for this appauling murder to led to another act of reckless violence. We stand by our historic commimtent to the Netherlands and to their territoral rights and boundaries of the mainland Europe.
