Well, votes were just released. I would call it a barn-burner since Cox only has a 1K lead, except like 75% of the precincts were reported. No idea how this translates to vote%.

I really hope Cox wins. Huntsman for me is the Republican Version of Evan Bayh 2016 who wanted to waltz back into the Senate but lost to Todd Young.
Huntsman is a Republican from a different aera and doesn't fit into this Republican Party at all!

Jon Huntsman Jr. 129.099 Votes = 35.0 %

Cox is a lot more like Huntsman than Trump.

Cox now has a 10K Vote lead BUT the Majority of the estimated 100K Votes that won't be counted tonight comes presumably from Salt Lake County which favours Huntsman unfortunately.

Huntsman has a reasonable chance due to outstanding ballots in his good counties, while Utah seems to have possibly already counted many election day dropoffs (they have a lot more ballots counted than previously reported processed).

Based on what's still out, I bet on Huntsman on PredictIt.

Salt Lake is taking forever to get those ballots in and Huntsman has a wide lead there. I'm guessing he wins but this is really a nailbiter.

Just eyeballing here based on outstanding precincts and current county percentages, but based on that alone, a Huntsman win in the vicinity of 3-4k votes seems likely.

Most of the vote is concentrated in SLC, but it probably isn't enough and and NYTimes outstanding vote projection isn't accurate. Would probably require upwards of around 100k votes from SLC (assuming constant percentage, but Huntsman can very well do better in later arriving ballots) which would be as nearly as many votes as Romney got in the 2018 general.

Really hope Cox hangs onto his lead!  He'd be a great governor and Hunstsman is a weasel on two legs who has always been devoid of any principles whatsoever.

Did John Huntsman steal your lunch money? I really would like to know why you think Huntsman is so bad.

Hughes and Wright have both conceded.

Uncounted Ballot Report

Clearly an advantage for Huntsman with about 65% of the remaining ballots coming from Salt Lake County and Weber Counties which he won, and a fairly small amount remaining in Utah. Issue is if he matches the current margins in each county it won't be enough to carry him to victory. Likely needs to outperform current margins by at least 5% to win (probably more since the uncounted ballot report doesn't filter out the small number of D votes), which is feasible.

Jdb's got a point. Serving as Obama's Ambassador to China, then turning around and running for President against Obama is the actions of a person with no scruples whatsoever.

Well no... it’s just the actions of a man who at one point put respect for the Office above his ideological differences. What was unprincipled was his flip-flopping on Trump.

I hope it's not the last we see of either of these two.

This, my dream is that the loser primaries Lee in 2022, but that won't happen, sadly. But between these two and Romney, UT politics seems to have been surprisingly reasonable in recent years. Also SLC looks like it will be decisive, and I'm not sure who wins, at this point.
