Lisa Murkowski is running for reelection. She faces a primary challenge from former Governor Sarah Palin.

Which candidate wins the primary?

Would the losing candidate run a write-in campaign (remember, Murkowski did, and won in November.)? If so, what would their chances be in a three-way race?

Palin loses the primary, but if she did win and Murkowski ran a write-in, the Democrats would pick up the seat.

Definitely Murkowski. Palin overall is not popular anymore and there is no way that she would win. Also, I don't even think Palin would run, but who knows what she would do.

Sarah Palin's moment has passed. She wouldn't run, and if she ran she wouldn't win, and if she won I can only imagine that either Murkowski has done something extraordinarily bad or Alaskans (who skew male) are literally deciding to vote based on which candidate is more beautiful or attractive.

Probably Sarah Palin by a 52-48 margin. She will probably narrowly win the general election as well.

She could win the primary if Murkowski doesn't recover with her base fast. Murkowski is seen as a RINO and is deeply unpopular with Alaskan Republicans. However, Murkowski could defeat Palin in the general by dropping out of the GOP primary and running as an independent.

Well maybe. But Palin won't be the one who runs and beats her.

Palin would win the primary, Murkowski is toxic among Republicans. In anticipation of Murkowski being primaried, Democrats would try to recruit a strong candidate, such as Mark Begich, who could very well defeat Palin, who is probably unpopular among everyone outside of conservative Republicans.

Alaska might implement RCV including a jungle primary as it is on the ballot this November. So there is the possibility of not even having a classical primary in 2022.
