I would think Kerry’s war heroics and Dean’s foreign policy views would be less relevant.

It'd be Gephardt (if he doesn't become Speaker of the House), Dean (who would run on his center-left record as Governor of Vermont), or if the Dems want to lose, Edwards or Lieberman.

Gephardt (assuming he doesn't become Speaker), Dean, Biden (I think he didn't run in 2004 precisely because he thought Bush was unbeatable after 9/11), Kerry, Lieberman, and possibly Hillary Clinton (she didn't run in 2004 because she thought she'd punished if she lost and then tried to run for reelection to the Senate, but at the same time, Bush would be more vulnerable with no 9/11, so Hillary might try to run. It's an open question whether she'd get through the primary, though.)
