As a more experienced player, I would like to take the Ottomans. If not possible, then I will take Louisiana or Spain.

I am willing to give up the Ottomans in favor of you since you are more experienced. So the Republic of Brazil it is for me.

OK, I'm going to start preparing the first turn tonight. Ideally we'll get a Spain at some point (doesn't anyone want a challenge? Wink ). People can still sign up, ideally this will get started by Monday.

Unless I’m confused, Mustafa III must be super old by now. Did you mean Mustafa IV or Mahmoud II?

It's Mustafa IV, yes my mistake. Mustafa III would be 118!

If it's not too late, Joseon Korea, tho considering no one has chosen either of my neighbors, it might not be as interesting as it otherwise would be to play Queen Regent Sunwon.

I realise I'm comically slow but who do I blame again for selling my glorious crown jewel of India?

I did some spelunking and it appears we can blame Dkrol for the French hegemony over the subcontinent, I have gone back to Concert of Europe a game I wasn't involved in, but by turn 3 we had this conflict:
Kingdom of France, Empire of Russia, Archduchy of Austria, Kingdom of Sweden (and others) v. Kingdom of Great Britain, Kingdom of Prussia, Ottoman Empire, Kingdom of Portugal, Kingdom of Denmark-Norway (and others)

From what I can skim, Prussia bought Corsica for some reason, Lumine kept trying to kill people I'm pretty sure he killed the Pope, Empress of Russia, and tried to kill a couple others. The plague came back, Lumine tried to kill the King of France, the British pissed off Bengali folks and then Louis XV made them a pretty sweet offer and that's where I think we get the French domination.

Since the primary British colony at the time was Bengal, leaving it was essentially conceding the subcontinent. Here is where it happened, if you want to look further:

and here is the map immediately following the Bengal Affair:

This is true, but I still have to conquer everything else.

If finding a Spanish player becomes an issue, I am willing to switch to Spain.

No need, like I said in the rules, Spain can be an NPC nation if necessary. Gives me flexibility in South America if that's the case Wink

Is there any way we could start the first turn July 6th, I have some RL stuff next week and won’t be available much Thursday-Sunday.  If not, I could make it work if it starts when planned, but end of turn is extended to July 9th.

Neon Green: Qing (Manchuria, Beijing, scattered portions of China)
Purple: Xing (Yangtze River, Central China)
Dark Teal in South: Guang (Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian)

I'll leave that up to the other players, but I will say I'm hesitant to delay the start by a week because that's how I've seen in the past that these games lose momentum (people forget, lose interest, etc). Normally I wouldn't be in favor of a turn longer than a week, but given the holiday in the US and the three-day weekend next week, I would totally be willing to extend it a few more days, no problem (I too will be less available next weekend).

If you feel like you only are able to give basic orders the first turn, that's no issue and you won't be penalized.

I agree for the same reason. A delay in starting the game would likely mean a few inactive players turn 1, which is a formula for disaster.

Let's compromise,
Maybe not delaying it, but extending the end of the turn if X needs more time given IRL issues?

I'd agree with the gents above it's better to have a longer turn then a delayed turn in my opinion like if turn 1 began on 30 June but went until 9 July for example I think that'd be better than it going from 6 July to 13 July just so we're able to keep all our ducks in the pond.

That’d be great; thanks!  As long as it can be extended if necessary, we can start as originally planned.

I'll take Qing China, if sign ups are still open, I've played a couple of these history-based strategy games and I'm willing to take another try.
