Why was there a separate slate by the American Independent Party in Alabama when Wallace was already the dem nominee in the state? The atlas results lists it as "No candidate" receiving 1.04%. Was it a fusion with the main slate, or separate?

And how did the Humphery fusion even work considering that Alabama still chose it's electors individually?

I think the same sort of fusion happened in 1972 with Mcgovern as well with the National Dem party of Alabama (An anti-Wallace, black power party). How does this affect the county results?

Aren't the Humphrey results just the combined totals from the two slates of electors?  I think that's what is meant by "fusion."
